NPC Cities
Hello All!
While noobing around Atlas, I've come across a few "towns" that have sound so of people....but no actual NPC's. Has there bee discussions of having these "towns" populated?

If they did populate them, I think they would have to make those islands with them "no build zones" else. players who claim them will just build giant walls to keep everyone else out on official maps. That would be the problem with them making any static treasures or finds on the map. Players can build and players love to cheese farm things like that and block it all off.
It is already sad that some islands have many discovery points that you will never see, for the same reason. .. other players.

Would be neat though :)

Very valid points....especially since I've experienced that it other games. For Atlas though, I'm playing single player so I think that would be a welcomed option.

If you watch the trailer for the game it shows them being populated by npcs so more likely some time down the road they will be populated. But like I said it will be some time, since they are going to have to work out how each npc will interact with their surrounding and what they may or may not be able to do. Like be a merch or maybe be a crew member you can hire or something.

X Box release is their main priority now, cause its money spinner I guess.

Yeah, I can see them adding villagers to the Freeports just not .. out on random islands, not without addressing the claiming/building aspect, first. and that is at least a few months down the road, before they take a look at what they want to do there. (non hostile and or static npc, anyway)
Maybe traveling merchants or something along those lines that randomly spawns on islands for a few hours at a time? hrm.

Actually they already have unoccupied npcs settlements on some of the islands. And as for hostile ones they have stated that's in the works right now and should be out sometime soon actually. Well soon as in within a few months maybe. Which more likely will come out during the Xbox launch. Those encampments are suppose to spawn on random islands and you have to take them over in order to even try and claim the island. So more likely they will be doing another wipe once that gets implemented as well as working on the claim system.

Hostile NPC encampments

"Speaking of things we’re working on, later this month you’ll be able to get your hands on our new single server map: Blackwood, which will be available for Unofficial, Single Player, and Non-Dedicated Servers. Plus, don’t forget our new “Wild Pirates Encampments” system, which you can learn more details here:"

Aye, the OP was asking on the abandoned npc villages that play the sound loops as if they are filled with life but, no ai around lol.. mmm IF they put npc in them and they are on islands others can claim and build on.. that would be a no go, I would think or a big mistake, players would just wall them off and farm them.. is all. (NON hostile npc and trade ones or ones that anyone would go to for things, that is)

I am looking forward to the aggressive encampments myself for SP. :)

In Blackwood, the experience is rather jarring. Full towns, empty but a couple vendors. When there is an NPC the just watch you and do not interact in any way. I am hoping the will add some form of quest system offical or via mod to Blackwood.

Dont know if they will do a typical, npc tells me where to go, what to do and to pick up his lunch for him, kinda quest sytem in Atlas. It is kinda not exactly that kinda game but, sorta less its not them well, yeah..
Many games out there need a new Labeling system because they are not pure one thing or another but hybrid or new things all together. IMO

I guess they could do hrmm uhh. Oh! You dont start out with a compass but rather, there is an npc in freeport with a ? that gives you one with a story of he is a failed explorer and tells you that if you find all the powerstones you can sail to the center of the map and fight the kraken!
Instead of you already having the compass and can just go do that, already.. There is your starter quest :) would it make you feel more accomplished?

Another NpC in the freeport with a ? who has a map open and is obsessively rambling on about finding new islands and wonders so he can check off his bucket list before he is 100yrs old who even heard rumors about a well that brings eternal youth!

this could be an Atlas quest thread :P

Another Npc with a wanted list Of all the Great beasts, so when you kill that Monstrous Whale, instead of auto getting your perk, you have to sail back to the starter island and turn it in to achieve the same thing. yay, joy!

Honestly, I'd have no issue with NPC quests coming from cities that are actually populated.....Elder Scrolls style! :)
Liatni Sep 8, 2019 @ 8:53am
Keep in mind, no fast travel and you would have to sail back and forth across map to turn in items.. I would not mind that myself however, people are crazy nuts about "sailing time" as it is. lol agree with you, actually but, not going to demand it. ;)

All of the above you can do without npc interaction and that is what they consider "quests" and they are more like Goals and achievements, than quests, really.. If they want to make them quests, have someone besides yourself who sets you off to get them.. :P Seems like making whats already there complicated but, it is what people expect, it seems.
