First thing is to make sure you are using a suitable rod/reel combo for Carp. So with the starting gear you got, this would be the "Haichou Fishing Rod 9ft" and the "Haichou Carp Beginner Reel".
The next thing to concern yourself with is the line you'll be using. Again, with the starting tackle you got you are going to want to go with the "Guru Pulse 10lb mono", but we will be looking to upgrade this to some higher breaking strain braid asap. The Korda Supernatural, 25lb breaking strain braid is a very decent & cheap upgrade and should be one of your first purchases IMO.
Next we will look at rigs. You need to match the type of rig you are fishing with to both your bait and the type of area you are fishing in. This information should be clearly displayed in the rig description, but for reference:
Blowback Rig: Fish over Gravel, use a pop-up or bottom bait.
Chod Rig: Fish over Weed, use a pop-up/buoyant bait. (This is a cracking rig that I use often in RL down at my local reservoir with Mainline high vis pop-ups)
Hair Rig: Fish over Silt, use a bottom bait.
KD Rig: Fish over Silt, use a buoyant bait.
DF Rig: Fish over Gravel, best with bottom baits.
IQ-D Rig: Fish over Silt, use a bottom bait.
Krank Rig: Fish over Gravel, use a bottom bait.
Dark Matter Rig: Fish over Silt, use a bottom bait.
Hinge Rig: Fish over weed, use a bottom bait.
Now we need to look at matching the size of the hook on the rig to the bait you will be using, for quick reference here is another table.
Small baits, or 8-12mm boilies - size 12-10 hook.
Medium baits or 14-16mm boilies/Tiger Nuts - size 8-6 hook.
Large baits or 18-20mm boilies/Tiger Nuts - size 6-4 hook.
I would recommend having rigs available for weed, gravel and silt until you know the Lakes and can make that decision beforehand + Corn, Boilies and Tiger Nuts are probably a decent place to start with bait for the white bellied king of the lake, our friend Cyprinus Carpio.
Next we look at our Carp Fishery choices. With the base package you get access to Waldsee, Bergsee, Manor Farm, Gigantica and The Grand Union Canal. My personal choice would be Manor Farm as there are some nice spots in the margins that you don't need to cast very far to reach + the fishery is well stocked and provides a high volume of bites (I also may be a tad biased being from good ol' Blighty myself). You will not be able to catch Carp at either Lake Boulder, or Lake Johnson as neither of these Fisheries are stocked with Carp.
Once on the bank , cast out with your first rod a few times to get the lay of the land. You can check the depth of the lake + the composite of the lake bed this way. I recommend fishing close to features in the margins to start with as these areas tend to hold Carp + you wont be able to cast very far with a 9ft rod.
Once you have found a desirable position/positions to fish in, set your rig and bait as appropriate, cast to that spot, tighten your line very slightly and put your rod down on the rest/alarm with "space" or "A". Now we need to wait for the bite alarm to sound. Once this happens it should be fairly obvious as the alarm will make a noise and a light will flash on the corresponding rod. There is also an indicator of which rod the run/bite is on when choosing which rod to pick up.
Pick up the appropriate rod and reel in the slack line until the tension indicator in the bottom left hand corner of the screen begins to build and Hey Pesto! Fish On!
I am by no means a "pro" at this game but I have caught plenty of Carp. If anybody has any amendments or additions to the information above please feel free to speak up.
adanio177, if after the above you are still having issues, chuck me a friend request and I would be happy to stream a little tutorial for you.
Tight Lines Old Bean!
That should be posted as a helper.
