Be gracious Old Bean, Firpo really did get you there. Before it was like being tortured with white noise while trying to fight a fish if the other rods/alarms went off. Now it is a much more harmonious experience.
Yes I agree it is quieter almost silent, well a feint sound in the distance almost, but playing from day one and being used to that volume just seems to quiet ya know. I think a volume slider for the alarms could have been a fair medium.
Personally, I am happy with the alarm volume the way it is though.

Yes ok you have to buy stuff, the wife was not too happy, but the game is great.
