EWS - Emergency Warp System
This is a feature request for a new equipment part.

Name: EWS - Emergency Warp System
Size: 2
Type: Computer
Purpose: Engages Emergency Warp for player ship when armor is below configured value (defaults the same value as fleet ships). You have to select a target sector within warp range first.

Reason:
I often have to do a reload when encountering too many or too strong enemies just because I'm too slow to navigate through the galaxy map, selecting another sector and then moving to the far away "warp" button. I feel this tedious as fleet ships can do an emergency warp when badly damaged. I'd like to have the same possibility with player ship - with the same restrictions (has to be repaired before using again or a cooldown time).

I think even just the module with a hotkey would be great. Or a hotkey for the warp button, in which case you would just need to have another sector selected and either hit M + [warphotkey], or just [warphotkey]

If this ever becomes a thing, I would suggest that it become a default equipment for all AI ships. Make the battlefield level - you want to kill any ship, you must force it to emergency warp, and then warp after it before it can get away and heal. And, of course, have hunter fleets and any other dedicated attackers capable of warping after the player, to do the same.

haha, sounds like EVE... we need warp jammers then :P

the new interceptor class made me think of that as well

That would finally put the ion beam to good use as it could drain the energy needed for emergency warp ^^

Its best to set a destination as soon as you enter a new system, then when a situation goes bad, all you have to do is start moving the cursor towards the warp button as you press M key. Situational awareness makes it pretty foolproof, only takes about 1 second. Having enemies warping out because you take too long to kill them sounds awful, but as Weaver said it would likely be necessary if the player can do it, which then requires all the value and % of drops to be rebalanced almost from scratch

It's also viable chose to pop up energy shield, before warping out - 2 sec is enough to choose system and click warp. Though that is usual that when you open map - its camera stat going up - cuz holding W, i don't know how to not let that happen, but force habit releasing W before opening map. Quite important when playing on permadeath, saved me few times.
