Start over from your tutorial game?
Curious a little bit about if you're expected to start over with a new game after messing around a bit after doing your tutorial quests. I've been playing for 10 hours, hit level 20 (mostly exploration/mining). I had hit a new game because I was curious to see something, and am now noticing you can select ships, and things that I had (extra starting points) had basically been wasted.

Is it sort of 'intended' to scrap and start over for other games and carry some of those progressions forward?

Other question was that as I'm working on kitting out an escort gunship, while I'm level 20 and my NPC pilot is level 16, definitely feels like I'm pulling underweight, albiet the fact that the pilot tends to face tank everything is definitely part of that. The sectors the game wants me to go through for quests seem to jump up rapidly like 15-20 levels, and wondering if I"m supposed to be grinding and hand crafting a lot of things? Stations i've visited have not had great equipment that's really caught my eye to work towards, but I have made notes on the map for spots with bigger/better ships. I also have difficulty finding more mining corp systems, there's one very low level, but I haven't really seen another mining allied system.

Yes. You can unlock crew, ships and perks. And select them when starting a new game.
i usually always play the mission as it doesnt really hinder regular gamplay, sam holo also provides you with a direct interaction of a lvl 10 reaver system to get battlerush, without needing to search for one, you get optional extra rewards for finishing it, etc.

only way i would play without, is if i absolutely 100% wont use any of the rewards. but honestly... consortium AI alone is enough to just always start with the tutorial, which actually should be renamed to "play the story" because the tutoril is just the first few steps of it...

id rather have more of this than less... e.g. a mission for each unique crew to unlock, instead of having them on rng basis in a pod... like with ziggy, just some short thing, nothing major.
I've been playing this for quite a while (almost 2500 hours in it) and I usually start with the Geraki ship, MIri as crew and always chose rebel faction to start. Miri really helps to improve any crew member and give you a very capable crew as you level up.
