But the chance that it will come out is just very small, that will also be adjusted.
There are a few players who feel they have too much of it, but most have too little of it.
For now I think its the only material that I have more or less issue getting it
From a certain sector level, red is almost as common as gray ore, but since red has a better chance, it brings more.
Green ore should have a much better chance, but it only occurs at a very high sector level in larger quantities to produce the metal compared to other ore in the same amount of ore loot.
You can also find them through scavenging, specially having the T2 scavenge skill.
What if I don't want to be a miner?
Haven't been able to find almost any of it by level 30. Maybe 2-3 pieces total in 20 hours.
I also noticed that when you scavenge in higher level areas you ONLY get junk and energy cells. Doesn't make a huge amount of sense that you don't at least get some lower tier resources. I was in level 35-45 areas where I could compete combat wise, but my tech level was only 12 and it kept giving me that error messasge.
Now I want to upgrade my ships, but have no way to get any refined metal without taking up and investing in mining (again not interested).
There should be more reasonable ways to get refined metal from either combat or salvaging imho.
You can try doing quests/killing elites enough to get at least two of same holocrons. Start mass producing and scrapping them with all the components you get from salvaging to boost your TL that way and be able to salvage high level debris.
Though, mining just produce resources a lot faster.
Just outfit a corvette (or three) as a miner (all mining lasers and mining drones). Bring them to an asteroid field. Watch as your geology skill sky rockets while you do other tasks, come back, pick up everything, refine everything. I normally use the refineries with the best geology range (and not speed); for that reason Ardonian refineries can be better than turbo flux refineries.
