Star Valor Vs Starsector
Can someone who has played both explain why one is better than the other?

From what I've seen, it feels a bit like Star Sector has more depth in, for example, trade and finance,
Feel free to share your experience, everything is welcome,

I'm so keen on both, but no time right now for 2 :), but I have a feeling that I'll end up with both leter :) but which one should I start with? However, it is a big disadvantage for me that Star Sector is not available on Steam, as I like to have everything collected here.

Starsector has colony management and industry which is basically faction building. This game does not have that (yet?).

Combat feels a lot different. Flying small craft solo is viable and fun. In Starsector only the phase ships were capable of challenging the biggest baddest enemies in from my experience.
One example: I was able to defeat a whole invasion fleet in a yacht wit railguns. It took a while and I tried a few times but it worked.
Never managed to do that in Starsector past phase ship nerf.

There is more RPG in that game than in Starsector. Your crew has tremendous impact on your ships performance.

The fleet combat scale is much bigger in Starsector and it feels more.. epic? On the other hand combat in Star Valor happens on the fly. Without all the fleet setup and strategic planning. It feel way more organic and you can stumble into situations that make it exciting.

Thats all I can think of for now.

Thanks, Which of them do you think is the most fun to change weapons and equip your ships/fleet, so you really feel the difference, etc.?

While they both feature character and ship customization, I feel that Star Valor is relatively more arcade-like in its gameplay. Starsector combat is more deliberate; you feel like you're in command of a full sized warship, and you'll need a fleet to fight a fleet. Piloting a Yacht or even a speedy Corvette in Star Valor feels like you're driving a sports car with a rocket launcher mounted on the hood. Engaging, disengaging, and blowing up enemies happens a lot faster in Star Valor, and if you're good with a fast ship you can win against dozens of enemies. Starsector has more logistical concerns, which don't really exist in Star Valor.

There is more variety in ship and weapon performance in Starsector, I think.

For me, one of the big differences is that Starsector has a huge modding community with some fully featured overhauls. Star Valor is supposed to get workshop support at some point in the future, so it's not there yet in that respect.

I'd start with Starsector just because it's got more content with the mods and whatnot, and give Star Valor time to get the workshop up and get some mods going. If you get Star Valor right now, the only mod I'm aware of just lets you respec as much as you want (which I really like), but that's kind of the extent of it. Give Star Valor a little more time to finish, I think.

Both are definitely worth the buy.

Thanks for reply, after looking on youtube I get the same feeling as you tell about the difference in battle. I personally think I prefer Starsector in that regard.

leaning a bit towards maybe giving Starsector the first chance here, but as I wrote, will probably end up with both in the end.

People feel free to add more thoughts

Star Sector is truly brilliant.

Star Valor is a lot of arcadey fun.

As for the better product, its very easy to say that Star Sector is the winner here, even being incomplete. Not even a shadow of a doubt.

This game is actually more comparable to Avorion than Star Sector tbh.

I wish that missile spamming is not the only solution to every problem in this game.

in starsector fleet build is fine. but in star valor its not, it seems fleet build need a LOT more work for QOL updates. managing fleet is tedious as it is right now. some people don't think they worth the effort. why play fleet if you can become unkillable solo ship. star valor needs a single unified cargo management like in star sector.

Star Sector is way better right now. But it's also been in development much longer, with a lot of ideas reworked over the years. I think when both games are at their final state, they'll complement each other nicely. Star Sector being the more strategic game, and Star Valor being the more tactical one.

That's a bit of the feeling I have. Starsector has a long lead after it has been developed for a long time. and that strategic game tactical one do that they'll complement each other,

imo they are very different games, same core concept, but Star Sector has far more layers of complexity and simulation, where as Star Valour is more simplified and arcade like, tho still has just enough depth to make it interesting compared to the other games like it

Star sector is a repair materials and fuel logistics game...
Star valor is an arcadey, elite-like with some fleet mgmt elements...

Starsector has more depth, but that doesnt precisely make it better. Let me explain.

Let's say your fantasy is that you want to be a space pirate:

In Star Valor, you drive through a jump gate into a civilian (Or otherwise) system, start shooting ships and generating revenue based on off the credits you get just for blowing them up and any loot they may drop. Chances are you wont be able to dock, so eventually you're going to have to dip out for repairs or ammo.

In Star Sector, you need to monitor how much fuel you have for moving about in-system, and how much fuel you have for jumping between stars. You're going to want to put your ship into stealth mode to minimize your blip and your generate revenue chiefly from defeating other fleets, and towing their vessels in to be sold or repaired and added to your fleet. Additionally, you now need to consider the food and crew costs of maning those ships. But its okay, because you can turn off your transponder and attempt to sneak your way into a colony that is hostile to you and move your product illegally on the black market to avoid paying tarffis

Now, the second is absolutely more complex. But does that make it better? It really depends on how arcadey you like stuff

The resource management in Starsector is poo... You need to spend way too much time looking at the inventory screen to make sure you have enough BUT NOT TOO MUCH of basic resources. Huge joy killer.

Starsector seems like management game (boooring)... but i dont own it its just me judging from gameplay videos.
