Starcom: Nexus - Versus - Star Valor
Almost the same exact game. Wonder which one is better?

Same pricing point
Starcom has planet side visiting
Star Valor has better graphics (IMO)
Both have the exact same transport systems to move through the galaxy
Both open world
Both have same ship upgrade and modification pathing (Tech trees)
and much more similarities...

They are virtual xerox's of each other.

What's the real differences?

Starcom: Nexus developers made political statements on Ukraine. I don't like that in my games! Purchasing Star Valor!

Ukraine has enough of my money already via taxes unwillingly.

This a joke?

Just looking at the trailer for Starcom: Nexus I can see a big difference in how ships are handled: in starcom you make your ships on a hex grid, in Star Valor you use pre-created ship models, and custom them with the weapons/equipment system. I'd also guess just from looking at the grid system that Starcom, like so many other games, fails to balance for small ship combat; in Star Valor you can be endgame in a ship of any size, solo or with a fleet.

Gotcha, joke thread.

Just bought it. I like that the development team are very active on it as well.

The developer is indeed very active, although "team" is rather misleading, as there's only one dev.

ALL THE MORE REASON TO SUPPORT IT! Thank you!

Played both games. Each has its own charms.

Starcom Nexus actually has a story.
Star Valor has much higher replayability.

I think Star Valor is the better game.

Also, saying these two games are copies of each other is pretty ignorant. Their similarities start, and stop, at being top down space games.

Maybe they're the same genre, but I'm not even sure that's the case. The progression systems for how you improve your ships are completely different.

Nexus is more adventure story driven with linear progression.
Star Valor is much more Diablo loot hunting, open world sandbox with 0 story.

There are other games much more similar to Star Valor than Nexus... but I can't remember their titles.

Either way, Star Valor is the best/most modern one. And it's the only game of its kind that isn't dead and is still being worked on/has people actively playing it.

Here we go, I finally remembered the game I was trying to think of.

That game, which had a sequel BTW, is a game much more similar to Star Valor than Starcom Nexus.

I've got Drox2, which is WAY better than the first.
Highly recommended!

I agree, keep your politics away from my games.

Starcom has a story and rpg-lite little side quests, and has an ending. Basically a starship-focused RPG.

Star Valor is more arcade shooter with fleet mechanics in a persistent randomized world, with new traits you can select for a new character on starting new games. It's sort of a roguelike without the permadeath.

Drox2 is Diablo but with starships. Semi persistent world with quests that you can complete to complete a "world" and then start again in a new one with the same character. Also the factions and races are persistent and evolve as you keep playing maps with the same universe seed.
