The thing to know is that, like most weapons, they gain all the speed of your ship; but unlike other weapons, they have a multi-second lifetime. So if you're moving at 100, they'll be moving at 100 for several seconds, outranging all other weapons in the game. The trick is to get speed, launch them from a distance, and then turn away so you aren't there when they go off.
Two beginner lessons:
1) Fire while at full boost *then* IMMEDIATELY slam the brakes. Watch the distance it travels on your radar.
2) fly a little backwards when you fire; see if like mines you can get a chaser to trip on it.
Side note - I have had multiple play throughs and have debated about my favorite tier ships ie shuttle yacht corvette etc ...
anyways badboy is my favorite corvette - 50 equipment slot, stealth (worth 3 slots and also the best stealth item compared to 'store' bought.
