If those could go into the bank, anyone can buyout a cheap good in one station and sell it out when finding a higher price.
We have discussed alternative ideas, as the possibility of contracting freighters and freight services.
This is something that will be revisited later, for now the bank is to make life easier.
Right now what I do is the first station in a new sector I visit I empty my ship onto the station and then proceed to explore/mine/scavenge/hunt and when I am ready to leave I pick them up and move on. The Compression on metals is a very nice buff in the mining tree fyi, doubles your carrying space for gold/silver/metal ore/etc... very nice.
Also on one small note, crystals are damn small, they shopuld take up negligible space, not the 0.25 they do now but far smaller, like 0.1 at most if not 0 weight. if (I am assuming here) that 1 mass is 1 tonne then having a crystal weighing in at a quarter of that is insane. but then again, gameplay reasons.
invalidate the existence of the PMC (chinese construction bank) faction.

However, it may be possible to allow banking of such when PMC
has the effective monopoly and has claimed all trading in those
materials to be at their pricing. Effectively, that would mean
the prices of those goods to be the same in every non-PMC station
and a % of trading profits to go to PMC, with PMC stations offering
slightly more for those resources.
Since non-rare metals trade for very little, it would (only) make an interesting venture
at the start of a player's career, working for PMC and getting a little reputation.
IMO, only mid to high level stations should be allowed to have a considerable amount
of rare metals (which the player can trade for to continue their PMC banking efforts).
It's a form of currency afteral, and it's a bit odd that the player can't bank such.
It would introduce a way for the player to start as a miner (early game)
and mid-game switch to being a banker (gold & silver).
It would tie-in nicely once the player can construct mining station(s)
and receive residual income from such.

It's possible that in this universe, crystal trading has standards too
and that 1 unit of crystal-to-be-traded must weigh roughly .25 tonne.
