Before Poker Night at the Inventory, there was Telltale Texas Hold'em. Not a bad proof of concept, although it's not much more than that.

I forgive you Telltale, it was your first game. Everything has to start somewhere.

Rerelease the Poker Night at the Inventory games, Telltale chumps.

This is predicessor to the Poker Night games.

It shows the bones of where those games came from.

It plays a game of poker with some personality colour thrown in for good fun.
But it is way before the more capivating games that came after it that feature recognizable characters, beter animation, better writing, etc....

Good for what it is, and worth a sale price to see where things start out from.

I've played several other Telltale games and they all have a high quality to them that doesn't exist here. It is a single table of Poker with boring competitors. I played three tables just to see if anything changes. It doesn't. There is nothing interesting or fun nor are there achievements that may improve it. Do not buy this. Every other Poker game in the world is better and there is NO tale that is told.

Telltale Texas Hold 'Em is my most favourite game of all time.
The subtle and nuanced humour is a pleasure to experience.
I give this game 9/10, would be 10/10 if there was a way to play against 4 Boris as an extra hard mode.
If there's one thing I know about poker it's you've got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em. This game takes it to the max to the point I feel I am really there in a poker tournament.
Immersion is not compromised. I only hope for the deluxe edition with the novel about grandma and what happened to her 5 husbands.

Like Poker Night at the Inventory, except it's CRAP

Let me start by pointing out that "Telltale Texas Hold'em" is an old game. It's outdated. So when you play it, the graphics and the interface will probably bother you. However that being said, even though its an old game, when you play it, you feel like you are actually sitting in a poker table, playing in a real tournament. The in-talk between the characters makes it really immersive. Characters are not so bad either, especially the character Boris Krinkle even inspired the character Leonard Steakcharmer from the Sam & Max series.

Other than that the AI is sometimes predictable, but it doesn't affect the game too much. You have to consider that this was the first poker game that Telltale games did, before the "Poker Night at the Inventory" games, they've built up so much more since then.

One problem that this game suffers is that the game has no replayability value; when you win your first tournament, you're done. No need to play another time, maybe, except to hear the dialogues between the characters. It's not like the other poker games from Telltale, where you can get exclusive collectible items such as new decks, new tables, ot just new items from the characters in the game.

Normally if this was a brand new game or a recent game, i wouldn't recommend it, but considering its price being so low and its the first poker game from Telltale, i would say you can give it try, if the game is on a discount and/or if you want to the see the earlier version (kinda) of the "Poker Night at the Inventory". You will have fun around 30 to 60 mins...

It is just Texas Hold'em. Don't expect much from it. Also is the game before Poker Night At The Inventory. I'll wait for the day Telltale puts those games back up, whenever.
