I've tried:
- Re-installing it
- Verifying the integrity of the files
- Starting the game in both full-screen and windowed mode
- Running in it Windows 7 and 8 compatibility mode
- Disabling HDR
- Setting the .exe fps limit to 60fps through Nvidia Control Panel
..and it still closes on startup.
I own other Wayforward games (like the Shantae series) and I have a 360 HZ monitor so sometimes the games run faster than intended but going to Nvidia Control panel and limiting the game executables to 60fps fixes that issue. But Mighty Switch Force Collection refuses to start at all.
The other games don't do this. I have no idea what to do.
My Specs:
Windows 10 Home
AMD Ryzen 5950x 16-Core Processor
Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090
128 GB Memory
EDIT (07/10/21) [Part 1]:
I've reached out to Wayforward earlier today on Twitter but they redirected me to their support e-mail (support@wayforward.com). I sent them an e-mail. Now, I'm currently waiting on a response from them. Will update this post as soon as I hear back from them.
EDIT (07/10/21) [Part 2]:
Decided to mess with settings again and I discovered the problem as to why the game will not start. This game DOES NOT LIKE computers running "HIGHER THAN 240hz REFRESH RATES." It was the framerate after all. Limiting the program's FPS limit through Nvidia Control Panel does not work like it did with the Shantae games.
To fix this issue, You will have to set your computer's refresh rate to 240hz or lower in the Advanced Display settings on Windows 10.
This is how I got my game to work. Very annoying to have to do this though.
EDIT (07/16/21):
Aaron from Wayforward has responded back to my e-mail on 07/14/21:
"Thanks for writing in, though I'm sorry to hear you've run into this issue. I checked with the QA team to see if they might have a solution. They believe that changing the refresh rate on a system level may be the only way to fix this. On Windows, that can be done the following way:
To change the refresh rate:
1. Select the Start button, then select Settings > System > Display > Advanced display settings.
2. Select Display adapter properties for Display, and then select Monitor.
3. Under Refresh rate, select the rate you want. The refresh rates that appear depend on your display and what it supports."
It looks like Wayforward has no intention of updating the game and fixing the refresh rate startup crash. If you want to play Mighty Switch Force Collection, you will have to set your computer's internal refresh rate to 240hz or lower in the Advanced Display settings on Windows 10.
Hopefully this post will help anyone else who may be experiencing the startup crash.
It's really unfortunate considering that they are one of my favorite indie game companies that they seem so unconcerned with the quality assurance of this game, considering I've been wanting to play it for a really long time.
EDIT (07/31/2021)
I tried lowering the refresh rate to below the number listed above (and also the only other choice available), 60 hz, dropping down from 300.185. Fortunately the drop hasn't seemed TOO noticeable yet but it's still a shame that in order to play this game I need to manually change my settings for JUST this game, then change it back immediately after.
I asked Wayforward if there were any plans for a possible patch to fix the refresh rate crash or possible future support for higher framerates and this is what they sent me:
"To answer your question, I'm not sure if this is something we'll be able to fix at this point, since the team behind the game has long since moved onto other projects. This is also a very rare issue, as this is the first time we've gotten a report of this happening. That being said, these bug reports do help us avoid similar problems in the future, so we appreciate you taking the time to bring this to our attention nonetheless.
Regards,
-Aaron"
Guess we have to cope. The only way to play this game is to lower the refresh rate through Windows settings. Kinda annoying but it can't be helped it seems.
