But if you're into SP it doesn't seem like there's too much difference between 19 and 20 unless you're into strictly playing modern leagues with current rosters, and that's a shame if so. I think OOTP believes they're so ridiculously ahead of anyone else when it comes to solo play that they've got solo players regardless. What other alternatives are there for SP? Baseball Mogul?
So the emphasis with them is on cornering a big MP market now and attracting casual players, at least in my opinion.
PT is the very definition of pay to win loot box, but the people who play don't seem to care.
I already have no intention of upgrading this year, and I don't think I've missed a version of OOTP in a decade. I don't buy on release day, I pay half that price in November or something, but I still buy. There's always just enough reason to merit picking it up on a sale, but not this time. I'll wait till the incremental upgrades make it worthwhile.
To do well at PT you pretty much have to buy the game when it first comes out. So that's good money right there. And I guarantee there are plenty of players who drop over $100 on PT. Look at the OOTP forums. There are people who take this really seriously.
On top of that, PT attracts casual players and OOTP doesn't have to work hard to keep them as long as the roster upgrades are on point.
OOTP has pretty much crushed their competition and at this point it's all about increasing the userbase. They can't make big money by courting old-school existing players like us.
How much longer will Sony have a stranglehold on baseball titles? Maybe once something similar to The Show comes out on PC, OOTP will go back to their specialty.
