Have they made the game more challenging with the ultimate version? I remember others saying the game was very easy even on high difficulty settings.

Difficulty is about the same as og or maybe even easier, though it's possible to always play on pandemonium once you get the camp upgrade. Reason why i think it's easier is because you can upgrade character stats to maximum (2000 and 200 for speed) with upgrade stones. Weapon attribute slots can hold 2 extra slots and the attribute level can go to +20 instead of +10 once you get the camp upgrade. You can also create a X weapon with infinity mode materials which is designed for infinity mode and not story mode meaning the X weapon is really broken on story mode even without attributes. Basically if you equip all the broken stuff the game will be very easy so it's kinda up to you if you wanna do that or not. The game is still fun though if you like koei warrior games.

without making use of most what oichi mentioned, i find the bosses can still be quite difficult, near the end of the storyline, the bosses' combo keep me in the air quite often and i die before i can even chain a combo on them, they always manage to interrupt my combo unless i force myself to use a power type character, even then theres no garantee i can survive.

I abandoned all hope any of warriors game will be challenging again - last one was DW 3. Major problem is always broken, passive and no active enemies. Just run around but do not attack.
