Keep spies happy
Maybe I'm missing something but it is hard to keep the spies happy. I use the gifts (remove limit and add cost instead) and even if I give them missions they still not getting any happier. How many missions do a spy have to do before any change? As it is now there are not missions or gifts enough to even keep half of my spies happy.

Hey dr_lofstrand,

As you make your spies go through missions, training and crafting sessions, they will become more unhappy over time (people can be tired over time, so are potatoes). Do not use one spy all the time, and also, the number of gifts given to one spy are limited. A Spy becoming unhappy is inevitable, but if you are in the later stages of the game, one unlocked feature can slow the process down.

Have fun playing the game :)

Do more expensive gifts give more happiness? Or should I just always start cheaper and work my way up? I just gave a spy a 4k gift for his first gift and I think it only bumped him up one happiness level, so I'm thinking there might not be a reason to choose more expensive ones.

my spies won't stay happy either. There seems to be not only no way to cheer them up, but no way to get back to an info screen about their happiness.

Spies wont be happy forever, either you can keep them and dont let them do things so much, or you may have to let them go, but then again, if you play well, $tarch is not an issue to care about haha, so you can just buy all the gifts

I understand now that you have to retire spies to get better ones. But what about the special spies (those with the blue crown and wont take any space in the barracks)? When I've used all the gifts and they still are down to red in happiness, should I retire them or will there be any building later in the game that can make them happy again? Almost all of my special spies are red and useless for the moment.

I think ultimately you have to retire those special spies. What I did was I use those special spies in splicing to keep their unique skills and job classes.

and yes, more expensive gifts gives more happiness. Seen the mood goes up by 2 levels with the most expensive gift.

Well. I personally never noticed, that giving a mission makes a spy happier, quite the opposit, I send them on a mission they get a S and come back with more frustration, what can be important is to give them a present as soon as they drop to the first unhappy face, that brings them to a happy face on normal at least(haven't played on hard yet) and only sometimes. The special spys I used them on training facilities(for the sidemission of use facilities x times) or tried to see if though they are realy unhappy will build an item with preference bonus on, though they sometimes fail at it. If the preference is close to the training facility they will complete some trainings before dropping visibly in happines, it's a lot about these % in the 3 categories.

If you send them on missions, the more they do, the more unhappy they would be, just saying haha

Noticed ;D
I thought I read, that they'll get unhappy if they just train and never do a mission , so I decided to send her on a mission , she got more frustrated about that(maybe it was to easy....) , well after the recovery I send her on another one and her mood was completely gone ;D
Felt there was nothing I could do , to get my superspy happy again(bought her 2k 4k and 8k presents all in a row, no difference in happiness, and she had like gamebreaking stats ;D Well , it'S always a possibility to dare to use the items, that lower the betrayal rate or just level further for a good splice.

Also another thing I noticed is, that a spy will accept a training facility further away to its preference if the spy is more happy or at least it seemed so to me and if the happiness drops , the preference goes missing with it.

And a last thing there are spotbonuses that help on the mood you can find and guess them with a good observation of the buildings needed I haven't used them a lot , but kept one on the map depending on the mapspace and arrangements I wanted to make for my base, thought it shall help on this topic.

Yup, spot bonus is a good one to help reduce the dissatisfaction of the spies, but if you are not emotionally attached to any specific spy, you can just get a new one instead :steamsalty:

So there is no way to keep a spy permanently happy? Does that mean I gotta eventually discard all the high lvl spies and start again with lvl 1's?

You can finish the game on normal before that does happen depending on the way you choose to play(Haven't finished or started the game on hard yet)[\spoiler]

There is no way to keep a spy permanently happy. However, you still can use them for other activities instead of going for missions. I have more than enough to get to the end of the game without having to discard the old spies :)

Ah yes I just figured it out that I can still use them for crafting gadgets.

Question though, does the happiness affect speed of making gadgets or the stats of the gadgets?
Gregor May 13, 2019 @ 3:38pm
Yes it does intefere with the degree of variance that is allowed to give a preference bonus on the produced gadget,. So a spy more happy can difer more then a spy less happy, that can in the end lead to an uncessucefull task, which means you wasted resources and time, instead of getting something better then expected.
