Where to find gems?
I've recently gotten up into tier 4 and 5, but even with all my groups mining and scavenging, we haven't found any gems at all. Where do they come from?

Gems can be found randomly while mining any minerals. They are intentionally made extremely rare, so usually you can't collect all of the gems yourself.
So, the best way to get a lot of them would be to trade with other players. They might have a few you can buy with other resources.

Note: gems drop when you reach certain level of prospecting skill, so please open the skill menu and confirm if you have this perk unlocked. If I remember correctly it should be unlocked at level 10 of prospecting.

I found my first Gem last night. I've been over level 15 for a few days and have mined several thousand units of various resources. They really are rare.

There are some speecific places to find them. I always find one of them in the big clay pot near the middle map.

I know that emerald come from sand, diamond from coal and tourmaline from clay. If someone knows where to find the others, please share.

Gems can be mined from any of the mineral nodes, there is no specific places.
As long as you have the necessary skill you can get the gems just by mining the minerals (be it metal ores, clay, sand, coal, etc.).

Gem scarcity has been here since the SEA began. Build 25 people were asking where are gems and here we are build 27, the question is still there.

Devs - trade with other players
Players - no one want to trade them

Gems are not used in any recipes that are important. They are primarily used in vanity items. So making them more common would just defeat the entire point of the whole thing.
They are sought after precisely because they are rare.

Yes, we get that they are supposed to be rare. But they are too rare, and yes, they ARE important if you want to complete the achievements. Consider the point that the game should be fun. It is NOT fun to click your mouse on pixel rocks for weeks and not find even one of what you need. It would not be irritating except that one of the achievements for a perfect game is to put on that gem armor set. That gem armor set takes TWO pieces of armor, both made using ALL the gem types, plus gold. Looking at the map, there is rarely a gem for sale. There is no in-game bulletin board way to do a trade for gems, either. I am really wondering if you, as a developer, have tried to make the complete armor set in the game.... how long did it take you to mine all the gem types and quantities needed, if you have? When nobody has gems for sale and you can't find even one gem for days or weeks (and you need 10, and mixed types, at that), how can you call that fun to play your game? Just some feedback for you. Thanks for your time!

You are beating a dead horse at this point. The devs arent listening - trade for them lol...... all you get from them.

To give them credit they did up the pragmium after a few days of posting.

Tell your friends to post in this forum otherwise it wont happen.

Yeah. I know. That's why I posted a trade post last night. I bought all the gems that were for sale on the map (all of like ... two ... this week). I will trade everything I have just to finish this last thing. Seriously. :P The frustration just got to me last night. Lol. I've noticed that already. Same thing with turning furniture. I don't think they get that some people find it fun to decorate their bases and it would keep them playing longer. Yes, it would take time, but the people who buy and play the game would have more fun and refer it to their friends. Right now, I can't refer this game to my other friends. I HAD two that played. They both got bored. They quit sooner because they didn't care about getting all the achievements. They both commented that the game was boring because it was too grindy. The only reason I'm still playing at the moment is because I don't want to stop without having finished that last achievement. That would bug me. Hehe.

OMG! I just noticed you like Grim Dawn, too! That is one of my FAVORITE games! That and Terraria. :P

They know that people would like to rotate objects but they dont have the manpower to do new content and draw every object again.
What would you prefer rotate objects or complete new content?
Sure i would love to be able rotate objects so my bases would look better but not at the cost of new content.
Would you play the game for 100 hours more and recommend the game just because you can rotate the buildings?
Are you not recommend the game because you cant rotate buildings?

Gems are rare but still easy to get if you just want them for the Gold Armor (achievement).
I got enough gems just from farming minerals for building my base and crafting. I never started farming only for Gems. I had all the gems long before i i had enough spare Gold because i was unlucky with the events and wasted a lot for other things.
The only problem with Gems is if you use the Rapier as your main/second weapon.

If you friends get bored because it was to grindy what would they say if they get everything after 10 hours?
The game is boring we did everything and now there is nothing to do?

I dont know then your friends played the game but with the last update the grind was dramaticly reduced especially with the drones.
Without grind the whole game would be pointless it would be just a Call of Duty with a little farming.

Some Achievement should be hard to get so you have to work for the 100% (Perfect game)

I smell elitism above.....192 hours - you do that in a month? Most people work and can only give an hour or so a day.

I have 231 hours and found 5 gems. Not even close to what is needed for that golden armor.

I dont care what you smell.
Who said that 192h there in 1 month? I played the game before A27 Update.
231 and only 5 gens?
That dont sound like a rng/dropchance problem but more like a planning/farming issue.
i got with less hours enough gems to build the Armor and have 1 or 2 left.

You dont need to play 5 hours a day to get something.
If you can play only 1 hour a day and you want everything as fast as possible you have to plan your time better.
No running around and doing nothing.
No exploring the world.
No farming with a 50% full inv.
mikeydsc Sep 4, 2020 @ 9:22am
Sorry to bust your bubble, 125 of those hours were spent just clicking mining nodes. At such a low % chance, everyone will have different experiences.
Alethra Sep 4, 2020 @ 11:18am
I work full time and have a family to take care of. It's just that I spend almost all my free time playing video games, otherwise. I've had this game for several months. In that time (including before that last wipe) I found ... not bought ... 4 gems. Four. I have only found one gem since the wipe. The rest I had to buy.

I only mentioned the rotating issue because I was trying to convey that those "little" things (to the player, not the development side) make a game enjoyable or not enjoyable. I have not posted threads about that being a huge deal. Yes, it's irritating to me, but I understand it from their point of view.

Anyway, enough said. I think I've made the point I wanted to make. The gems are just a little too rare. Thanks for your time and patience with reading about this issue.
