This game is great EXCEPT........
The Lizard/Dragon mask brings this games fun/challenge to a grinding halt. The masks functions are the opposite of what has been worked into your muscle memory. X on gamepad to slowly fall becomes X to come down super quick. On top of that the game turns into basically trial and error until you memorize the level. Speedrunning it/No hitting is a pain in the butt too if you want to go for it. Honestly I'm just a couple of levels away from 100%ing the game but every time a Lizard/Dragon mask showed up my fun died knowing the level was just gonna be a slog of dying and repeating based on just not knowing what was next and having to do it perfectly..

Dragon stages were my favourites.
To each their own.

Yeah when they threw it in one of the stages and it turned into trial and error I kind of cringed and just quit... Do it later. Nice game otherwise

you can switch to casual difficulty to skip it and then switch back

Sorry, I meant The last boss Just went through perfect multiple times, and getting hit because the platforming setup seems weird there. Guess it was just a double jump, but it bugged me still and ruined flow, like the other levels. I can see the appeal, but I dislike it.

Welcome to Donkey Kong Country minecart levels. That's basically what those levels were.

Those also were garbage back in the day.

For some twisted reason, gamedevs have still not outgrown their trial and error fetish.

You've just described pretty much every video game in existence.

Not sure if you're with me or against me on this.

The dragon/lizard mask is my 2nd favourite.

Totally agree with OP! If you wanna good example of "memorizing" level, play any music level in "Rayman Legends". They very challenging (especially 8bit ones), but at the same time very fun to play.

I also agree with OP. Autorun levels are horrible, and I’ve had no such bad trouble with autorunner levels in other games. If you ever make a sequel, please ditch them. It’s great that the game offers to skip them though (at least in easy mode).

These are akin to the minecart levels from the DKC games. It mixes up the gameplay while still focused on platforming. If you're into the game for the speedrun challenges, this is sort of a preparation as you will be constantly moving forward when doing that in every stage.

You can keep rehashing the ol "its just the minecraft levels" but if you actually played those (especially in dkc2) they weren't as memorisation heavy as this level. Much more leniency to respond on the spot. Kaze on the other side 100% requires memorisation in the later levels. I agree with OP, these levels are easily this games weakest moments (and it already has a lot of them). The level design really is all over the place in this game.

i absolutely hate trial and error gameplay
i expected a game more forgiving in the vein of mario

some of you speak of the "minecart levels" but none of the donkey kong levels ever approach this kind of sheer frustration and difficulty
nintendo knew when to tone down the difficulty
