Stage 14 (Steppenwolf Surprise) keeps crashing!

When I reach the area with the car on display and the plant you have to grow as your character, I try and grow the plant and it just crashes me to desktop everytime and I haven't had any other problems like this before on the game so I'm not sure what to do.

I disabled all my red bricks, disabled hints, disabled HUD interface, analytic preferences off, motion blur off. I honestly don't know what to do since this means I literally cannot progress.
My system specs are:
-GTX 1070ti
-AMD Ryzen 5 1600X Six-Core @ 3.6GHz
-16GB RAM

I see we're having the exact same problem. So I'm just letting you know it isn't an isolated incident. I've tried many of the same things you have, but haven't had any better luck myself.

I also updated my video card drivers last night, but that no effect either.

My best guess with something like that is that it could be a memory leak somewhere. Have you checked Windows Event Viewer after crashing and seeing what it says?

I hope there's some way the developers can see this so they can be aware of the problem and issue a fix.

I remember I managed to fix it somehow, I forgot I had actually posted this! What I did was something to do with disabling some options, but I'm afraid I cannot remember which ones they were. I just remember finding them after actively searching the net for the problem!

I was thinking maybe just going through the whole story without unlocking any red bricks may do it. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and I also deleted my savegame file so I could start from scratch.

If you can remember what you did, let me know.

I found a fix for anyone who may still be scrounging around on the internet for a fix to the plant bug. You have to exit the level (without closing out of the game) and when you load back into it, don't skip any cutscenes. After that, continue the level as normal and the plant will no longer crash your game! Hope this helps!
