Absolutely this. Out of all the lego superhero games I disliked DC 2 the most, because the open world was chock FULL of random enemies, and you just had to keep fighting them and fighting them and fighting them every step of the way - exploring the world was nearly impossible. Super annoying and repetitive. Batman 1 and 3 are ok.
For instance, the first lego star wars game is not very fun to play if you don't have nostagia for it and/or you don't know the newer games (no flying character, boring puzzle, three of for power/moves varations, etc).
Maybe i'm the same. It's my first "modern" lego game and the first to realy hook me up (i played the very first Lego Stars Wars on Gamecube back in the day).
But i think Batman 3 is the first to really try to do something different and inspired the following games for a lot of things (mostly an easier way to do things, more powers, better flying mechanics, easier level selection, cameo and joke characters, etc). Some games are lazy (like the lego movie game) but some other you see than the developpers have fun to do them, and the DC games are among them.
