I started from scratch. :(
Nope, same issue in the second save file. I'm now going to try downloading it to an older computer, see if that makes any kind of difference. Though I honestly doubt it will.
Edit: It didn't. Still can't get past that one spot. Not sure what else to try at this point.

Basically you need to turn your video settings down for this level.
The problem seems to be that the cutscene/scripting at the start doesn't play out correctly, so Darkseid's little minion guy (Desad?) gets stuck on a door instead of going through, and as a result the turret you're supposed to be fighting never activates.
To fix it, you need to exit the level and lower your video options; in my case I dropped the resolution to 1280x720 and set textures to low, but it may depend on your system. This won't look as good but as long as it runs smoothly when you return to the level it should allow the scripts to function correctly.
This appears to be a long-standing issue with the Lego games on PC, so it's really frustrating that it's never been fixed; scripting shouldn't just fail because something else ran slow!
