Can't Do Free Play on Pt 2 of Steppenwolf surprise

So when i do free play on this mission, the first section in the elevator shaft/lobby works fine in free play, but when it gets to the monorail part, im stuck as batman and catwoman.

and when i try and load free play for part 2 by itself, i don't get to pick a character and it loads straight in

Been reading alot online for this issue.
cant find a fix for this anywhere you would think they would have fixed this going on 2 years later very frustrating and for completionist definitely puts alot of people off buying lego games

as batman, after crashing inside the broken train car, after knocking down steppenwolf for the first time you can glitch up the side of the train closest to the camera to get the final minikit by breaking the doors of the front traincar

I thought it was weird that you couldn't switch characters in that part, especially when it prompts you to change to Killer Frost to put out the fires. Fortunately, it is possible to get all the mini kits without needing to switch.

When you get to the part of the fight where you are in the Batjet and are shooting at Steppenwolf on the top of the monorail, aim below his feet. There are three doors on the side of the monorail that can be destroyed. Get all three of them and the mini kit is yours!
