Whenever I hear scripting glitches and Lego it usually tracks back to the age old bug in Lego games (that hasn't been correctly addressed). If the performance drops at the 'right' time, character scripts fail (unable to grab ledges, swing posts etc). It also causes boss scripts to fail, leading to gameplay blockers. As can scripts in 'ingame' cutscenes fail (which also causes gameplay blockers).
This bug has been around since at least Lego Movies 1 (I've seen it as far back as one of the Lego Batman games).
fyi - These issues compound in split screen mode (as it taxes performance a little bit more)
The 'Age Old' Fix (dependant on how old your hardware is).
Turn down all the Effects and Graphics settings.
Firstly, you could just try setting your resolution to its lowest (800x600) and then try the level again.
If that fails ..go the whole hog:
Set lowest resolution, set Texture Quality to 'low', V-sync 'Off' (these options are in the Video menu).
Finally, set all the Effects Settings to lowest options ('off', if possible).
Restart the application (just to get every 'ounce' of memory back. ;) *at this point, make sure you have no programs running in the background while playing Lego DC Super Villains*
Reboot game and play the level again.
If you get past the bug, feel free to turn your settings back up and continue playing ...either till you finish the game ..or get to another glitch (if you do ..perform the 'fix' again :)
hope that helps you, this issue has pained me in a number of previous Lego games.
I want to say that it was either turning settings down like the one reply or I adjusted the resolution size, but I honestly can't really remember.
