Sad!
they could easily implement a store that sells a million skins for your units, but they don't, because surprisingly enough the devs seem to have some integrity, which is rare these days.
when i first bought the game (around the time Rusviet Revolution campaign came out) the challenges (for platinum medals) were bugged to a very frustrating degree - all of these issues have been fixed now, and they still implement seasonal rewards (thus a reason to play the game).
they maintain multiplayer capabilities and they recently implemented the world map campaigns that i am eager to try out once i'm done playing the campaign again.
there's still a few minor bugs around - mostly campaign objective related - but its nothing a skilled player can't deal with.
and i am not saying this to brag. in fact i am not even an average player imo. like i'd say i'm actually below average, but with some thinking and endurance and a willingness to persevere, i still managed to get all the platinum medals.
did i have to look up guides every now and then? Yes. of course i did. because like i said; i am not a professional or even "good" at the game.
the trick is to come up with your own solutions to the issues the game presents along with the advice from guides, such as those made by a youtuber named "NickFatNite" whom also seems to be just above the level of a "good" player.
in fact, there's plenty of times where his advice is not the end-all best way to complete a certain objective, but his guides are great nevertheless.
anyway, i'm rambling at this point.
the bottomline is that while content releases are slow, they do happen even to this day.
i had about a 1.5 year hiatus from the game and when i came back yesterday i was positively surprised by what had happened during my absence - and i didn't have to pay a penny for any of it.
They do absolutely release skins, every season they release new skins for units, which feel to me extremely low effort. They aren't charging real world money for these, credit where it is due, but it's not actual development.
It's a shame because I do really like this game, would love to keep buying more DLC for it, but it doesn't seem to be actively developed anymore. If any Dev/Mod wishes to correct me please do, I'd love to play Northern kingdoms or Fenris/Tesla.
September was only 4 months ago, though. (to be fair it will be 5 in a couple of days, but hey, technicalities).
i mean, do you expect content on a monthly basis? because if that's your criteria for whether a game is abandoned or not, i guess that to you, its abandoned.
and so is games like total war: warhammer because that doesn't receive monthly content either, and when it does, its usually paid content with quite a steep price tag for what you get.
modders essentially provide that same sort of content and more for free.
i'd say be patient and just be happy that the content for this game is (mostly) free of charge, with the only exceptions being the actual DLC campaigns.
that being said i would of course love more content.
i like the idea of a faction that uses Tesla tech.
In IH we have heard nothing for four months, since the last update, which was a map addon. I don't expect new content on a monthly bases, but some clarification on whether the game is being worked on or not would be nice, since they definitely have the room for it. I don't think monthly blogpost updates to say "yes we have things we are working on and problems we are aware of" is a big ask. Again, if you or the Devs have something recent that says "we've got more things coming" please link it here.
Also, off topic, but as far as WH being abandoned, never forget Three Kingdoms.
well the reason the WH devs don't provide a roadmap is because warhammer fans are notoriously unforgiving as a fanbase and that's putting it mildly. they need to be very careful about what they say and do, because their fanbase is... well... pretty wild.
something doesn't "fit" the universe, even a small thing that doesn't really have an impact? all hell breaks lose.
people essentially make 6 page novels complaining about how a given character doesn't have his/her proper starting location done properly, or how a piece of armor doesn't look like it does on the miniature, or how a voice actor doesn't put in enough effort, or how magic is gimped (for balance reasons) when its insanely powerful in the lore etc. etc.
thankfully modders have addressed many of those issues and become very talented at modding the game itself, so the fans aren't rampaging as much as they used to anymore.
And it's so abandonned that the 75% off announcement is the same copy/pasted message for a while now, with the same mistake and the same "new map for september".
It hurt Valheim alot, and when ever anyone does it, people think the game died.
And the fans likes to feel like they are involved.
