However, on more open maps, things gets dirty. AI still doesn't know how to properly mix up units, but with boosted gather rate you can get swarmed by bloobs from all directions. Taking into account some balance and design flaws, it can be really frustrating
But the AI in Iron Harvest seems to be brutal even on medium.
I cant win one game, getting overrun after 5 minutes with riflemen and mechs, not having a chance to even build up economy.
Is it just me being so bad or is the AI here pretty unbalanced and cheating?
Anyone can try it out on "Crash Site" 2v2 map. it's pretty fair considering it's a symmetrical map, with you Ally AI placed on the other side of the map. but still your AI Ally would get beaten out and you're left with their mess.
What's important IMO is that you get a build order and hero + reserves you are comfortable with. So for me this is for example Saxony with Brunhilde or Usonia with the Sniper Princess. For reserves I often take something to get the edge or support, so for example machine gunners/medics or an AT-/MG-Gun.
In the beginning of the game I try to hold my squads together to throw the AI off course (they often charge with one/two squads only, seldom all three). When I have 50%+ resources of the map, I get mechs out (often anti-infantry, but depending on the faction anti-mech instead).
Normally I have heavy fighting at our "borders" to this point (trying to hold/get 50-80% of the map), but with the mechs the tide turns and it is just keeping an eye out for the enemy reserve and pushing to their base.
--> Victory!
To beat the AI I think you only need to keep their hero + reserves in mind (and how to counter them (<- meaning having a plan to beat them!)) and have map awarness.
If you loose troops (not single soldiers but whole squads), your doing it wrong and will loose the game.
But yeah, the AI there was different. But I think the whole game is, while feeling and looking similar, totally different. Still, the AI in CoH is way more sneaky and uses their troops better, it is also somewhat slower and can be ambushed.
In IH I think the AI is much faster overall and "knows" more often than not where you are.
But if you keep that in mind it is not a big problem.
there seems very little ai or strategy for the computer units,they simply spam to overwelm you.
this isnt a strategy game imo,more an art/film students "cv project".. shame really :(
coh is in a different league so i dont see any competition,i enjoyed that both with and without a trainer.
even with a fling trainer etc this is simply "un-fun" .
