Why so toxic?
Is this how you receive new players?
How are you supposed to buy a game that doesnt say how many players are playing.
2. There's plenty of people playing.
I suppose such designations are subjective but (depending on when you checked)...if you checked four hours ago it's daytime in Europe and early morning in America...I doubt more than a couple hundred...when I check/play there's nearly a thousand...considering how niche RTS games are and how further niche tactical RTS games are, I think that's more than enough to sustain a competitive pool.
What they really needs is a lobby where people can hang out and chat and arrange custom matches. But like you said that doesn't seem to be a priority. That said, the quick match queue is still pretty quick during prime time, or at least it seems to be for people who are into such a thing. I like to arrange my games so I suppose I ought not really comment on that.
All serious RTS players have basically abandoned the game at this point, including most of the people who put time and effort into making guides, videos and streams for the game in its early months. This says far more than mere population numbers and it's telling that the only people who stick around tend to be those who play single player or those whose RTS experience consists of bad games like MOBAs or Starcraft.
If you don't know about the quick match queue don't comment on it, I have screenshots of 40+ minute queue times from earlier in this game's history and it was heading back towards that before I uninstalled it.
Custom Matches are relatively easy to come by on Discord, and because of my limited time that's about all I can do. I'd love to play random pubs in Quick Match and get my butt handed to me, but I usually only get an hour a day to play so I'd rather schedule something. However, I DO watch YouTubers and live streams during my work hours and they queue live and seem to find matches within minutes.
If you are trying to play outside European or North American prime-time, though it sucks. Checked this morning and there were only 150 on, probably all Single player so I definitely understand if some think its dead. It definitely doesn't have that appeal that CoH 2 and others have in other regions.
If you have fun with this game's multiplayer then that's great, but don't go around saying there's a good competitive environment when there most certainly is not. I've been in the top 10 in this game at one point and I can definitively say that balance is horrible and has consistently been the most neglected feature during development.
