I also cap all RTS games to 30FPS running at a constant frametime on a G-Sync 144Hz 1440p monitor.
This game runs for me in all graphic settings at constant 30 FPS while playing, but dips during in-game cutscenes.
I prefer setting the game to lower graphic settings, so my 1060 runs on lower power - prolonging its lifespan.
Using this lower resolution puts a black stripe on the left and right side of the screen. However, when I launched the game the next day, the stripes were not there and the game ran as if it was in "fullscreen" / entire screen, but STILL showing the smaller resolution in settings AND it had the same poor performance full HD has. I increased it to full HD, then lowered it back with one step, and the black stripes appeared and performance jumped up to 60.
First 3 missions were constant 60 FPS capped, but as the maps and unit sizes increased it just became unbearable.
Funny thing is I'm running a Zen 3 Ryzen, 16Gb of RAM, an SSD and a RTX 3070.
This is abysmal.
Edit: just finished that mission and on the next I'm back to constant 60 FPS.
Right? Its frankly ridiculous how unoptmized this game can be, and how little the devs care.
Multiplayer seems to work a tad bit better, but not by much.
Didnt mean to be salty, but yeah youre right. I just hurts sometimes how much wasted potential this had. And the loss of 60 bucks
I love this game, and it made me want to buy Scythe as a physical board game for which I'll be forever thankful. I think it's a good game, and while I'm painfully aware of it's technical shortcomings, I did in fact, categorize it as a 20$ game at best (given our eastern european income, that's already considered spending what I'd spend on food for a week), and I'm fine with waiting for deep sales or even Humble Choice packages from where I got Iron Harvest in the end. Why? Because I know it's essentially Company of Heroes with a better story and universe, but little else. And I have 2 of those games and their DLCs in my library and I'm more than happy to replay them instead of spending any more money.
I bought Iron Harvest knowing it had fps issues in it's open beta and free weekend events, and while I was hoping those would be ironed out by now, the point is I made an informed decision before opening my wallet, unlike you. I believe everyone learns from their own mistakes better than someone else's, because as you can see, it's a matter of perspective: you blindly went in with high hopes and got flopped, while I went in knowing what I'll get and I set the price point based on what value that is worth to me.
Im sorry, but do you know what exactly what went trough my mind when i bought IH? No, you didnt. I did not pre-order at all, nor did i support the kickstarter. I bought it day one after playing a fair bit of the beta, so i KNEW what the game was going to be like. I KNEW it was going to be pretty much COH but with less depth and mechs, but i decided to buy it anyways because i thought it was worth it to support an indie RTS game and because the campaign seemed good enough to justify the buy, even if overpriced.
What i DIDNT expect tho was the fact that the game was not only shipped with multiple features missing, but also basically unplayable because of these FPS issues. And that despite waiting an year and making two support tickets to the devs (one of which went completely unanswered) this problem would not be fixed, which left me with a broken product that was arguably not even worth it i the 1st place. And to rub it all in, the devs have just permanently decreased the price of the game, which is kind of a big "♥♥♥♥ you" to all players that spent money on IH.
Did a make a mistake? Yeah, i did. I learned the hard way to be much more careful with what i spend, and to refund games quicker when they dont work instead of soldiering on like a fool. But that doesnt make what the KingArt devs made right, nor does it give you the right to berate me for my financial choices, SPECIALLY considering you know ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about me and decided to just assume what i did and didnt do. Besides, its easy for you to say considering your game works fine with some adjustments, while mine doesnt, at all.
Maybe all i wanted was to vent a bit about my dissapointment in the game, and maybe keep others from doing the same mistake, but at the end of the day it doesnt matter anymore, i shouldnt lose anymore time with this game. So i guess i have to thank you for that.
Have fun with the game.
Then again I do have a beefy system so the experience may vary for others...
All in all, I got the Complete edition with a heavy discount on GOG and for now I'm not sorry it's an ok game, shame it could have been much more.
This is the first game of an indie studio. For that it's damn amazing.
