Master and Student challenge
I know that the "don't produce mechs" challenge is bugged since it counts mg gunners, mg and mortar platform as well as exosuit as "mechs".

However, it seems that another one of its challenges is possibly bugged. Specifically, "lose less than 5 units". I'm just unable to complete it no matter what.

What counts as a single unit? An entire squad or individual soldiers in a squad? If I lose a single soldier in a squad, that counts as one unit? If that is so, then it is quite impossible to pull it off because I'm bound to lose more than 5 individual soldiers given the amount of artillery and mechs in that mission. More so given that I can't utilize any weapon platform given the bugged "don't produce mechs" challenge which means I'm essentially down to basic infantry and my heroes.

If it a unit means an entire squad then I did not lose any at all so why does the challenge not complete?

You are right, not only the "do not build mechs" is bugged, but also I finished the mission with no casualties and the box of 5 casualties or less did not check. Put this mission aside for now because in this version of the game I do not think it is possible to get platinum.

It is the squad that matter , if you have problem with that mission , we can do Co-op , i know how to get the plat medal .

My guess is that it is counting pillboxes as units. Did you lose many of those?

Thanks for the offer but I would like to get it on my own. When did you get plat for it? Beta? Before the recent patch that added coop? I suspect the recent patch may have messed it up somewhere.

If it only counts entire squad as a unit then I lost zero which is why I'm frustrated as to why it is not working.

Does retreating a squad count as "losing units"?
kampfer91 Sep 16, 2020 @ 8:23pm
No , i can do it easily .
You really only need bunker , only north entrance and south hill matter .

North bunker should place a bit near HQ but still cover the entrance along with your arty mech , upgrade to anti infantry bunker and then place Gunter before them for 2 reason , one is to spot for your arty mech , two is the A.I arty mech need theirs own troop to spot target , they will shoot the first thing they see that is Gunter , if he low on HP , pull him back to heal and repeat .

Spam AT bunker along the south ridge to get pop shot at enemy mech moving around .

Place Olga outside , she can stealth so you can hide her somewhere and attack arty mech later .

Pull Brundhile back to the Iron node on the road , with a couple of bunker she can hold easily .

Don't bother upgrading building , waste of resources .

Thank you for the advice, appreciated.

That is essentially what I did with slight variation. My issue isn't handling the mission, it is somehow the game thinking that I lost more than 4 "units".

Anyone managed to complete that challenge after the most recent patch?

I upgraded my buildings so I could get more units, but it probably wasn't necessary

Spotting with Gunter or Olga is key (I used both of them to spot, inter-changed them when one was low on hp) both so they draw the enemy arty fire and also for your one artillery mech you start out with (can't make more of them or you don't get the challenge)

I went for a ton of field cannons and let the AI have the iron mine out on the road... just brought Brunhilde all the way back to my base

It is key not to build anything anywhere that the AI will be able to concentrate fire on it, so this took a couple tries for me to figure out the best spots for bunkers so you don't lose them. They have to be back far enough so the AI has to pop his head into the noose to try to target them, then it is too late for him

Did you get platinum for it and if so, when? Was it before the most recent patch?

My issue isn't the strategy for it but that I cannot complete the "lose less than 5 units" challenge even though I did not lose any squads....unless individual soldiers within a squad count as a unit each.
