Worth playing if I hate the anime?

I adored the original game, the anime, and Load Region of Déjà Vu, but Zero is just going from bad to worse. Whole episodes of Okarin's whining, FFS. Should I still consider playing the game or just skip it?

yeah okabe looks a bit stupid in the VN imo, but the anime fixes some translation issues the VN has too. besides that there is no real story difference tbh...

The whole story is different after episode 8. I dont know which anime you just watched.

the whole story is still very similar... and mostly suffers from the same story faults

Similar doesnt mean it's the same. And there are some big differences in the VA pattern
Not to mention the almost non existent PR route

I've tried to avoid spoilers in my comments by now and I'll stick to it.

Though I've come to the conclusion that where S;G still had some initiative coming from okabe, S;G0 misses that for some good reason. Maybe thats exactly about what the TE complained in first place, though comparing him to Shinji feels a bit like an exaggeration to me. Shinji is a complete moron. (I still liked him and hoped it would get better with the movies, it didn't...)
Okabe on the other hand got a way better reason than some ditched child that purely lacks the love from his parents and loves to dwell in his misery as much as possible. I can really relate to Shinji in a way, but there is a limit to everything.

VN feels very oppressive imo, the way you can interact is rather "meh" and a bit random, though it makes sense. Still: if you really dislike the new okabe that much, skip this game.

I found Okabe much more relatable in the visual novel so yeah, its totaly worth it

I find a lot of the games and anime is cringey. It's not so much the whining but the mad scientist part.

Okarin is MUCH more likeable when he's depressed or experiencing utter despair.

Don Reba did you actually tried the game since ? I have watched the anime up to episode 12 and this is bad bad bad...
At time i felt like watching one of those silly modern anime (with bad fanservice and super lame caracters/script) and the rest is a mess.
Even daru voice felt ever more annoying than in first serie.

The first anime was so fresh... (except for the out of place perv/hentai "jokes")

well the anime doesn't adapt the bad ending route, gehenna's stigma, which has some of the best scenes in the whole series and it doesnt adapt twin automata which contains moeka's redemption arc, either, so you kind of ♥♥♥♥ up by watching the anime without reading first

Even in VN, the 1st on was better IMO, but the steins;gate 0 is definitely a must read. You wont regret it
