If this issue persists, it may be that files needed for the application, Steam client, or Windows operating system may have been corrupted or deleted.
*If this is the case, it may be that the files were deleted by anti virus/system cleaner software.
Please try reinstalling the game and the Steam application.
If this doesn’t work, it may be that the necessary .dll files have been corrupted/deleted.
To fix this issue, please try either;
1)Run the Windows System Restore
(Details: https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/)
2)Check the history of your anti-virus software for recently deleted .dll/game files and restore them.
For Win10 go to control panel (search>type cp>enter)
Click Region, select Administrative tab>Change system locale>check "Use Unicode UTF-8">OK
After that computer will restart. This worked for all STEINS;GATE and CHAOS;CHILD games.
Cannot imagine how this could even be connected, but it solved issue for me.
Moreover, previously (before I hadn't gamepad) the game worked fine and after some break decided to play again and yep. Happened what happened.
Good luck everyone who'll get here with such problem
On the error message there is a japanese text, it says that the file "config.dat" is missing.
Go to Documents\My Games\mages_steam\Steins Gate 0\eng
and check if "config.dat" or some other files are missing. If you can't see them, then copy paste it. There should be about 4 files.
Don't worry if steam asks you to use "cloud files" or "local files", chose "local files" once you've put them in the folder and it will work.
thank you so much it worked for me, i use win11 its the same steps for anyone asking
