The game loads steam vr if you have a vr headset
Making it unplayable. Any idea how to not have it try to load into the Rift?

Hi, we've never had the problem before as we play it all the time on a PC that has both Rift and Vive. i will look into it, though

I bought the twitch.io version, and it is doing it as well. Even if I close down both Steam and the oculus store, when I run the .exe it loads both up and then loads SteamVR.

Ok, that is really weird. I will look into it tomorrow when I get into the lab and get back to you. thanks for letting us know!

I found this on a reddit discussion - apparently it happens a lot. "Right click on the game in your steam library then click properties. From there you should see a checkbox that says "run game in steamvr" or something like that. Uncheck it and you should be good to go." Hope this works for you but I will keep looking into it tomorrow.

I think it may be this check box on the properties tab, " Use Steam Desktop Theatre while steamvr is active," unchecking it may help.

How do I stop it from running steamVR on the .io version? Clicking on it's executable even without steam running makes steamVR load...

Hi, I've been playing around with this. The only thing I have been able to get to work is to unplug the headset from the computer. That worked like a charm. Steam thinks every version fo the game belongs to it, for some reason. I think it is some issue with Unreal but not sure what at the moment. Try unplugging headset. It's a pain but it worked for me.

You most likely have the player start actor or some other option/checkbox set to "VR" somewhere in Unreal.

I think I've got to the bottom of it. The build has some VR plugins. I'm going to repackage the build and update but that might take a day or two to process through Steam. In the meantime you can manually delete the files if you want.

Program Files (x86)>Steam>steamapps>common>Charlotte>Engine>Binaries>ThirdParty

You will see an OpenVR folder. Just delete it. Then run Charlotte. You’ll get an error but just open and it should work

Oh, let me know if this works and I can update the itch.io build today as well! Thanks so much for all your help and support on this. This is our first Steam release and we are learning a lot!

Great, thanks!

I just redownloaded the itch.io version and the VR bug is fixed, thanks!

A few more bugs

Pressing "tab" to access the menu locks me in the menu, and the only way to get out of it is to quit the game. Should I be able to press "TAB" again to close the menu? I pressed esc, tab, both mouse buttons, nothing got me out.

Loading a save game from the beginning menu seems to crash the game. It gets stuck on a black screen with the crosshair dot in the middle.

Vsync is disabled, so I get a ton of screen tearing.

thanks for the feedback, The save menu is pretty unnecessary as the game is so short - we mainly used it for demos, so I might just get rid of it rather than fix it. Never had it crash the game, though. Although sometimes the game can take a while to load so it seems like it crashed. I can try to replicate it , where were you in the game when you tried to save? Also, are you sure it really crashed and wasn't just taking a long time to load - it is a really big game.?I just want to make sure as I've literally saved it hundreds and hundreds of times for festival demos and never had it crash....thanks so much, really appreciate the help and glad we got that VR issue fixed!

I saved after pressing the button in the first room. I couldn't get out of the tab menu so I force-quit the application. Loaded it up again, then picked load game. I let it sit there at the crosshair in black screen for a good 5 minutes and it never loaded. Definitely longer than the initial load when starting a new game (which is quite long).

Also, I absolutely love the game. It's a fantastic way to immerse the user into such an unfortunately overlooked historical setting/event. Great idea integrating the scanned artwork and literature into the experience. I would love to see what your team can do with VR.
