Short video of me demoing usage of the tools.

I've created two command line tools for packaging/unpackaging HROT PAK files. Hopefully should get some industrious modders started. 😁

Thanks for posting this!

Hmm. I only tested extracting and repacking all the files (this works). It looks like modifying the files prevents the demo from launching.

Request
Can you allow us to load custom content? Pretty-please?

EDIT
I have got custom content working, but's it is hacky. Maybe mod support for full release?

how did you get the game to launch after modifying the pak file?

The tricky bit is the modified file must be exactly this same file size as the original.

Yeah that's a bit of a pain, I asked the dev if he could allow modding

dev will release mod support when retail comes out

Thanks for the tool Joshua.

Using it, I've gone ahead and started work on my basic weapon sound overhaul mod (given that the final file size of the modified sound has to be exactly the same as the original, I can't get crazy with effects).

The technique I've been using is to make sure the modified file is smaller than the original and then padding it with null bytes to get the correct size. I helped someone make a sound replacement pack that works well.

That's what I've been doing. But you don't have a lot of room to work with when the base Kalach's firing sound is 7 kilobytes.

Yeah. I ended up crunching the sound quality way down. 😢

Really hope the modding tools contain map editor or that one of the existing editors like Trenchbroom are supported.

I hope so too! Digging through the packaged files, I couldn't identify any files that might be maps.

Could you figure out a way to repackage the .pak file with my new files while the original counterparts get deleted?
Joshua Sep 14, 2020 @ 1:30pm
What issues are you having?

I mean I have made my new audio files to bear the same file size but I cannot delete the default audio files in HROT.pak in favor of my audio files. You know, the file size of the PAK file needs to be the same so the game could run. That's what I mean.
