There are a few reasons I'm seeing why ppl are giving negative reviews:
1. mouse and keyboard controls aren't great due to problematic lockon using mouse, but can be addressed by turning off auto lock.
2. SD style. Which, ppl are free to dislike but is not a valid criticism at the game itself imo
3. Some ppl expected this game to play like SDGO (or some other gundam game from the golden age of ps2 era), which it is not. Also a non issue imo as the game very clearly advertised what it will be and delivered on that.
4. Some ppl find it too repetitive, which is valid.
5. Some ppl's favourite units aren't in the game. Valid, but imo, for a character action game that already has 80+ playable units, it's not a bad offering.
I'd say, if you're interested, just give it a shot and see for yourself. You can always refund it within the refund period if you don't like it in the end.
The game is not the same as some of the classics no, but it never advertised itself to be anyways. What it advertised, it delivered so I have no problem with what I got.
There really aren't too many hack and slash action games with a PVE/COOP focus. The closest thing we have recently is probably Gundam Breaker, but Gundam Breaker 3 has its own share of limitations (such has having move sets tied to weapon parts so if you want to make a suit holding the generic beam saber as melee weapon, then it'll always have the same melee moveset). New Gundam Breaker on steam is also a rather lackluster title.
Besides, most recent gundam games don't bother recreating missions or cutscenes from the original shows as a lot of them now have a PVP focus like battle operation, EXVS, etc. but this game does.
The combo system is also very free-form in this game. Just about any attack can connect with each other if you know what you're doing. Compared to, say, Gundam Musou, where the attacks are very very rigid and must be performed in the exact sequence for charge attacks to come out, I much more prefer the freedom here to experiment with combos and juggling enemies with a buddy.
I wouldn't say this game is perfect. Far from it, but it does genuinely offer a style of gameplay that isn't currently available on the other gundam games without going back to the ps2 era.
That said, I'm having much more fun with the game than I expected, given my past experience with Artdink's previous mecha titles (particularly, Gundam Assault Survive and five of the Macross games). The humanoid unit combat has never been all that exciting in their games, honestly. The combat in this one actually has a lot more impact, which I'm having a good time with.
That said, this is no Gundam Breaker 2 or 3. Nor is it 0081, or Climax UC. There's some Gundam action games I truly love, and unless this game get a lot better later, this isn't going to be one of them. Still, it's pretty fun once you dig in a little, assuming you love Mobile Suits, anyway.
Been playing gundam games since the famicom thats probably before your parents were even born.
I understand some people just dont like the SD look thats fine but its been around since mid 80's. so talking like they are big gundam fans and having no idea about SD gundam I would safely say they maybe only seen 1 maybe 2 shows and tha's all they know.
but other is pretty bad
oh but its a VERY valid criticism considering the price. if they are going to put in a minimal amount of effort on the models (which is EXACTLY what SD is) why are they charging full price? they should have done MG levels of detail and then had a dlc that let you turn everything SD to atleast prove they are CAPABLE of making a game that looks like a 60$ game.
The price just absolutely doesn't much such a mediocre, low fidelity game. If Steam ever needed a neutral review, it definitely needs one for this game. Since Steam doesn't have neutral, people review it negatively.
QED
Its reviews are deserved from a gameplay view. Very mediocre, Dynasty Warriors is more complex ffs. The graphics are also just terrible. It looks like an Earth Defence Force game from the mid 2000's.
