Point Defense System better than torpedoes
I’ve developed a strategy where, if I’m close enough to a pirate who has threatened me, I steam right towards turn on the PDL. More often than not, the PDL takes out the pirate.

Well thats a good tactic, but the limitation comes from the range, rather risk not getting two torps right up my ship well unless ofcouse it appears just right beside me then I might consider using this in the future.

I only perform said tactic when I’m really close to the enemy within range of the PDL. Mine has a maximum range of 24 Gm. At that range, I wouldn’t want the torpedo missing and then target me. I know that you can blow them up. But I in a Youtube video where a guy tried to disable one of his own torpedoes, that was tracking him, and accidentally disabled the link.

Ah well that made alot of sense, as in the pirate is detected not far away from you. Anyways would you mind giving me the name of the PDL module you had selected? would like to play around unitizing your tactics abit :p seems fun. Thanks in advance.

It’s a PSL 10X and it’s made by Pritchard. It’s accuracy is “good” and its reload speed is “medium”. Its range is 24Gm. According to a wiki, it has the best range. Least likely to get damaged from a torpedo explosion, if the PDL detonates the torpedo at maximum range.

I thought I read somewhere of someone mentioning that using the PDL as a short range weapon was like having a unlimited cache of torpedoes.

I forgot; You’re right, it is helpful in asteroid belts.

Well the PDL is just a powerful lazer afterall, now I know it could be used to shoot down some asteroids and as a point blank wepon. Overall seems like a useful tool.

Wait! A PDL is effective in asteroid belts? How effective? Like, if you have a REALLY good PDL can you fly freely through them?

Not really. I'd say that the PDL might reduce impacts from asteroids by half.

Well, good to know because I just discovered a space station that is surrounded by asteroids. Half the impacts is still better than ALL the impacts!

That's my experience while using a PDL that has "good" accuracy and a range of 24Gm. As far as I know, that's the best range of all of them. There is one PDL that offers "very good" accuracy, but it's range is only 8Gm. That's too close for comfort for me.
