Console font feedback
Hello! I'd like to start by saying that I really like the concept of the game and I loved what I had experienced in the beginning, but one of the things that really makes me unable to continue is the unreadable font. I know that it's supposed to look like an old, pixellated console, but it's really hard on the eyes - especially since there's so much reading and all. Would there be a possibility to have an option that could switch to a more readable font, at the cost of immersions? Thanks for answering in advance!

This has been reported by other players as well, so the devs are informed of the problems that some users are having with the font.

We'll keep you updated about any changes introduced in the game!

Thank you a ton for this quick response! It's not a massive dealbreaker, but it definitely is quite straining in the long run, and I'm definitely planning on spending a few full nights on this game while setting my arduinos on fire via short circuits. Thanks again!
I hope the new (or alternate) font will still be a monospace font. First, it would make it easier to change it without big changes to the UI or text wrapping in dialogues. Second, the monospace really contributes to feeling of a retro computer, or terminal. There are plenty of monospace fonts that are easily readable and still have that retro touch.

Just some more feedback on the font.

With so much reading in the game the current font is too busy and distracting. It should be a clear sans serif monospaced font.

Cheers

it reminds me how i once was convinced to set my terminal in ubuntu to some "programmer" raster font, BAD IDEA, yes i'm all for retro-cyber aesthetic, but the jagged letters are not so great if you need to pay attention to the text

Just some AA might work nicely for it. Or perhaps a faux green screen higher-res display.

Any news on this? I really would like to play the game as it is, i just get serious eyestrain and headaches after a short while due to the font, rendering it unplayable for me.

Just bought the game and have to say, the font is a big turn-off for me. I get that the whole style of the game is 'retro' and that's fine, but there's a big different between reading this kind of font on an old CRT or some such, and trying to read it on today's displays. As someone who needs glasses to read as it is, I don't think I'm going to be able to persevere with it at this stage unfortunately :(

I think the argument could be made that many aspects of the games art style are silly affectations. But the decision to not even give players the *choice* of using a clear, readable font is just downright foolish. And to leave it that way for 8 months after acknowledging the issue is pretty frustrating. Cannot recommend the game until that's addressed.

I love the game, but I also would love a clearly readable font option as it is hard to parse on a large monitor

I resorted to a quick hack of the dosfont.png by scaling it up 200% with bicubic anti-aliasing then scaling back to original size. Resulted in a ghosting effect around the characters, mildly similar to an old CRT.
Made the news text-walls a wee bit more readable on a 32" screen without having to sit at the back of the room.

I did try to increase the resolution of the font, but even with editing all the offsets in the plist file I just ended up with oversized characters all overlapping.

Fizzymus, thanks! That's a great tip, about scaling dosfont.png. Between that, and running the game in a smaller window and with forced super sampling from the video card control panel,
I've got it to be a lot less jagged now. Though fuzzy (very fuzzy). But I think I like it better, maybe.

I just wish for a sharp, clean font, given that such things do exist now. But seeing the approach they use with the dosfont.png and the rest of the display system, maybe it's not such a trivial addition to ask for.

Well, I've now given up on it -- I just can handle the jagged font, even with the tweak mentioned above.

I'm past the refund period (from trying workarounds to the font issue -- never got out of the tutorial!), otherwise I would refund it. It's not a bad game from what I see -- I appreciate the work the developers put in and what they're still doing. But it just bothers my eyes too much to keep trying.

Maybe if they do another game they might entertain a different approach to the text.
