Forest Maze
I know there have been other threads about it, but none of them were helpful for me.
So, I’ve made it to Scorchy Land where I was told to figure out the maze and went further to Wilker Grove where I’m stuck.
There is only one tree, guarded by 3 magnus: if I stand kind of in the trunk, I can press ‘F’ and it shows for a few seconds some other trees? (green and yellow markings, I believe) and thorns being lowered then raised up again, and I’m immediately taken back to my first big tree. This tree will change its colour to red; if I press ‘F’ again, same thing (lowering and raising thorns) then back to the tree which is now red. Nothing else, no matter how many times I press ‘F’ it is either red or blue and I cannot go any further!
Also, the mini-map shows some red dots (magnus I guess) in the distance but it has no boundaries like all other mini-maps. My problem is that I simply cannot advance beyond the first big tree.
Am I missing something? Is it a bug? Other threads on the topic mentioned 5 trees (???) and pumpkins (???) and what not. I only have a small area of a map I can move around with just one big tree.

The minimap not showing properly is most likely intended, because it's supposed to be a "maze". The first and only tree you see, as you've noticed, can be toggled on or off. In the off position, it has no colored glow and you can't enter the maze. When you toggle it on, it will have a bright red glow and let you enter the maze. Make it glow red, and then never touch it again. When you head southeast after turning the tree red, there will no longer be thorns in the way.

Proceed further in, leading to the southern parts of the maze. If you open your minimap, you'll notice four sections with three enemies each; these are the other four trees similar to the red one, but with different colors. Right away, you only have access to two of them; the bottom left tree which turns yellow, and the bottom right tree which turns blue. The blue one will open the paths to the top left (white) and top right (green) trees when activated, and the yellow tree will alter some paths.

If you activate the white tree in the top left, it will close off the green tree's path, and vice versa if you activate green. The trick to the maze is to have all five colored trees in the on position. I can't help any further than this though, because I still can't figure out the way to keep all five trees in their on position and nobody else has posted accurate information to solve it.

EDIT: Also forgot to mention that if you kill the three magnus near one tree, they will respawn if any other tree is toggled on or off. They can drop loot, but they give no experience. I've not seen them in a wild evolved form, so it's likely always three Nerelict.

@Campaigner Thank you so much; your response is so clear and detailed. I'll try it and post further comments if I figure out more. Thank you again.

Don’t really know how, but I made it through the maze and into the final battle. Maybe it was a bug or not… I went to the maze just to collect info on what the effects of each tree are. So, I’ll write down my findings (which are in no way complete), and what I did exactly in order to get through, so it might help others. Again, since I did not manage to turn on all the trees, yet I made it through the maze anyway, my findings may not be reproducible!
Side notes: a) each tree is guarded by 3 magnus; it helps to kill them first, then stand in the trunk of the tree and interact with ‘F’; b) there are 5 different trees which glow a certain colour when activated (in ON position).
  1. The moment you enter you have access to 1 tree only which turns Red when ON.
In ON position: frees access South East (SE) to the rest of the maze; blocks access to final tree (battleground).
In OFF position: blocks access SE to the maze; frees access to final tree.
It was mentioned in another thread that you can activate red tree, then leave Wilker Grove. Re-entering Wilker Grove, the red tree no longer glows but you have access SE to the maze. Don’t know the reason for this, but that’s how I did it. So, I left red tree OFF and went on.
  2. Go SE, then N to the Green tree.
Since all the trees at this point were in OFF position for me, I have no idea which trees were blocked and which were freed. But I do know that:
In ON position: blocks 2 trees, frees 1.
In OFF position, the reverse: frees 2, blocks 1.
I left it in OFF position and went further into the maze.
  3. Return to the junction, go S, then E, where you find the Blue tree.
In ON position: blocks green tree; frees 1 tree.
In OFF position: frees green, blocks 1 tree.
I left it in ON position and went further.
  4. Go all the way W to find White tree.
In ON position: frees access to 3 things.
In OFF position: blocks access to all 3.
I left it in ON position.
  5. Return to junction, go S, then a bit E, then N to the Yellow tree.
In ON position: blocks blue tree, lowers access to chest, lowers final.
    In OFF position: the reverse.
I left it ON, and just as I was retracing my steps with the intention to go through everything again and see what tree blocks what, there was a cut scene, then I entered the battlefield and that was it.
Again, it might not be helpful for other players, since I did not actually solve the puzzle or understand why this time I succeeded when a dozen other times I failed.
But if you’ve been through the maze and can shed some light as to the solution, please help others like me who got stuck for so long.

I did it in another way. I started from the Red Tree, then went South and then West where I found the White Tree.
After turning in ON, I west East, where I turned ON the Blue Tree.
Then I went North to the Green Tree. It's at the right of the initial Red Tree. I turned it ON. Nearby there is even a chest.
After that I went South West to the Yellow Tree. Turning it ON I could get a chest nearby that was blocked by the vines.
All 5 Trees On, but surely I missed some chests, I think. I didn't care about them to be honest. After all this, I went to the battle with the Boss.
