Taking the rest function into account, also non-dragonborn mages can work.
As for food, if you have the food spell, resting for mana, then spamming food spell and eating gives infinite food supply.
And as a general feedback to the game: there is too much "puzzling" compared to battle. of course thats personal preference.
currently (especially with the throwing weapon bug/exploit) dragonborn fighter with throwing weapons seems to be the way to min/max. could even see a full party like that, that only based on exploit/bug tough.
Of course you all have some valid points. But why make 1 race so much better, when it is really not difficult to give them equal power? Each race stronger in 1 department...
Why should the player have to figure out how to make the game more balanced or challanging? I would argue thats the devs job.
