Totally Accurate Battlegrounds

Honest opinion on the state of the game.
TLDR: 2018 TABG was better, yet the game seems to be improving. Read for a rant on 2021 TABG.

Back in 2018, I started playing when the game launched. I loved this game, the concept was so cool and the combat, oh the combat was so fun. Looking at it now, I don't feel the same enjoyment I did back in 2018. Keep in mind, this is only my opinion, you don't have to agree with me.

I want to start by talking about the blessings. They are so counter-intuitive. First and foremost, the only blessings that you would actually want to use in a fire-fight are the combat mastery, spray, and health, in this order. All the others pale in comparison. I mean, "relax"? What am I gonna do with it lie down in the middle of the combat to get 3 hp? I'm sorry I'm not going to min-max my health that hardcore in a game like this. Vampire seems bland, since you have to KILL your enemy to get 20+ hp. Dash blows a massive horn upon use, its like yelling "HEEEEY I'M RUNNING AWAY FROM YA BUT I'M HERE COME GET MEEEE". Health makes you BIGGER, WHY? So you can get shot more easily? Then what is the point of having more health? Do I depend on my enemies having straight up bad aim? Blessings also create icons that float on top of your head, and the enemies can see them, giving away your position...

I miss the old armor system, having the banana or the pickle made you very tough to kill, I remember winning game just because of the armor difference. Where are the protective weapons? We had riot shields, pans, and medieval shields back in the day. I remember getting 2 pans, one in the secondary slot and one in the tertiary slot to maximize the protection I have. Those were the good days, now I just find an AK, MP44 or a BAR, get some greens, and start running around the map, the looting aspect is dead since the blessings are not worth wasting time searching for them and you get 3 blessings by killing people.

Also, some weapons are seem to be gone. Where is the RPG? The missile launcher, pardon my french, can eat ♥♥♥♥. It is so impractical and underwhelming to use it. God, big ammo weapons must be super OP so when you see it in the hands of the enemy you will go "OH ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥". MGL does this by little with its HUGE damage, but it is also impractical, since the bombs don't detonate on collision with the enemy.

Side note: gun attachments are also very rare, compensator is the most common, heavy barrel is the rarest (found 0 in 50+ games), and I believe they are nerfed quite a bit with the introduction of combat blessing. I remember slapping a compensator on a minigun and calling it a day, now the difference is barely noticeable.

Coming to the last point, either I forgot how to hold a mouse and press the keys on my keyboard or I'm playing against army veterans who are cybernetically enhanced to destroy me, or cheaters. Some people have really, REALLY, good aim. In one of my games I was going about my business with 2 rare combat and legendary health, 8x garand. Noticed an enemy on the opposite side of the map while the penultimate circle started shrinking, I took aim and fired 6 shots, hit 3. Then the guy turned towards me, unloaded a barrage of bullets on my chest. On top of these super marksmans, I also encountered what I call the super trackers, since they don't want to leave me be. I throw down tasers at them, knockback grenades, flashbangs just to get away from them, but they won't stop finding my hiding place in under 3 seconds. I don't understand how people became so _good_ at the game in my absence, as I said maybe I forgot, maybe we got cheaters/pros maybe a combination of both, but I'm sure at least some of them play too well to call legit. Please share your experiences on this one.

I'm not going to talk about the servers, or other idiosyncrasies the game might have today, (the lack of minimap, airdrop weapons, killcam etc.) I'm sure the dev team are working their ass off trying to bring this game to a level where it can shine the most, and I appreciate it. I want to end this by thanking LANDFALL for bringing us this masterpiece, and saying a fat ♥♥♥♥ YOU to those who nearly ended this game back in 2018 by cheating the ♥♥♥♥ out of it.

Edit: I forgot about souls, please make souls "keep on death" so they can be of some use in solo games. (maybe but blessings with them?)

I think your memory really is failing you. Armor in the old version did practically nothing, it was tested and the difference was so small it would rarely make a difference in a fight (like a 5 HP difference). And pans did not protect you either.

Seriously, I still have good memories about the original map but let's be serious, the new game we are now playing is much more refined and better.

This guy gets it

I've had the game since December 2018 and I cawn agree with you on a few points, but not most.

1) I agree with you, when I first got the game, it really felt like a novelty and I was enjoying every second of it. I left for awhile because I couldn't get matches to queue, and then with the new betas, I came back. The game still has the same novelty and I really enjoy it. I'm fairly sure atleast 1/2-3/4ths of my play hours have come from the betas/f2p update.

2) The blessings do seem fairly counter intuitive at first, but some of them are actually good, and that makes a "strategy" with which class you want to be in terms of blessings. Tanks would have shields, health, and relax/regeneration. Fighters/Warriors would have weapon mastery, dash, and speed. It makes for some variation in what kind of play type you are intrested in, and with different play types on the same team, it really develops a perfect team where you can have the tank distract, the fighters go in, and maybe have a melee try to go in and take out as many as possible before getting knocked. Additionally, dash is supposed to be strategically used in fights, in my opinion.

3) As @Saltigue commented above, I think you forgot that armor made the smallest difference. The only thing that armor really did (especially the banana/pickle) was make yourself taller and easier to spot, and you would only get like ~5-10 more health.

4) I feel like the protective weapons were removed to balance out the amount of rocks, trees, buildings, etc you could hide behind, because the map is smaller and there's alot of buildings in it to hide behind, making cover really easy to find. Also blessings like "shield" exist that negotiate a bit of damage, and heal books/heal blessing/relax/regeneration help alot with healing. If you're being shot at in the open, use a heal book while running, and use a heal blessing. easily regenerate to full health, rinse and repeat.

5) Gun attachments are rare? Go to Actual Finland. There's atleast more than 1000 different loot drops, the houses are stuffed with gear, including gun attachments.

6) With blessings like weapon master, they have increased aim. Also blessings like insight allow you to see people through walls. Jarl Axe is a 1 tap, same with any other sniper headshot, and crossbow headshots. Crossbows are broken imo, I used an automatic crossbow w/ fast attachment and red dot, along with a jarl axe, and got about 15 kills in a single game. Albeit, there are still cheaters, but the anticheat has mostly stopped the cheating problem as I only have seen 1-2 cheaters in the 75ish games i have played in f2p.

"I'm not going to talk about the servers, or other idiosyncrasies the game might have today, (the lack of minimap, airdrop weapons, killcam etc.) I'm sure the dev team are working their ass off trying to bring this game to a level where it can shine the most, and I appreciate it. I agree with this more than anything. I'm fairly sure the dev team have to be working atleast 6 hours a day on their project and they have my respect as a development group for bringing the game out of the horrible pit it used to be in.

I feel like most of your issues (except the one listed above) are problems related to changing to the new meta. There's alot of new guns, some removed, and there will likely be balancing patches in the future. I did like the old tabg, but this feels more new, official, fresh, and more balanced.

I also kind of find the new version a bit of a disappointment. 2 years for what, some blessings and worse UI? No new cosmetics or maps, gamemodes?
If it was an actual finished release I would even be okay with it, but not even that. It's just as buggy as it was back then, if not more.

It might be just me, but the original April Fools version was simplier, more direct and fun. It was unbalanced in many ways, but that crazy randomness was what made it a unique experience each time, playing just for the random lol than to win.
Now instead? Overly complicated, still unbalanced as heck, while forcing you to play for the best gear if you want to have a chance to survive more than the first minute.

An example: I had a good laugh finding the periscope gun barrel, but in the current gameplay there is no point for using it at all. Kind of makes you think what the game has changed into...

Blessing of shield. I don't think we'll see armor coming back. It was a really good novelty, but it did barely anything, but impose a fear factor. I do miss the armor for the nostalgia but the blessings feel more polished.

I too played on release, when cheaters were rampant and had free reign on the game.
Near instant kills seem far more common now than they were back then: I don't know if aiming was changed in some way, if veterans got REALLY good, or if cheaters are an even bigger problem now, but sometimes it feels like I'm playing instagib.

I know, muskets and blunderbuss were there at release too IIRC, but at least back then almost nobody (hackers included) would land those shots consistently.

Same, but I think not everyone who does that are cheaters. I believe the best thing we can get is a kill-cam, so we can look at the kill and either say, "WOW what a shot man" or "nice aimbot" :)

I think we will never have a kill-cam simply due to the game physics making it impossible to work.

My honest opinion on among us is that it's simply just an incredible game and I love it.

A kill cam is not actually a recording of the other player screen. It's a simulation on your screen of the info received by the server when you were killed. In a normal game this means it shows (with a margin of error) where the other player was aiming when he shot you, but positions and timing are only close to the real situation, as lag makes it always a bit different.

Now imagine that applied to a physics game with extreme wackyness like TABG.
Even assuming the server really kept track of everyones body physics (and I'm sure it doesn't), the simulation will never really match what actually happened, as the bodies and aiming randomly wobble around instead of being in fixed positions like in normal shooters.
