Sister groups and fans
So I'm not sure what the reasoning is, but I created a sister group and ended up leveling them up over time. And someone one of the idols in there has 100k fans, while one of my main idols in my main group is still at 30k fans. But yet the sales from the main group are always way better than the sister group. It seems to be pretty consistent though where all the sister group idols have more fans. Is there a reasoning for that?

One of the reasons is because you can Include those idols in the sister group singles and the main group singles. So they can be on 2 releases per month instead of 1.

Wouldn't that only matter if I included the sister group in the main group singles though? I tend to keep them separate yet a new one I just hired and put out one sister single with just got over 100k fans on her profile.

Well there are 2 other factors that could be in play here.
First would be the size of the group. New fans gained per single release are split amongst the members. The center earning the most fans, and then it cascades down from there. If the group is smaller, then the new fans earned to get as spread out as much amongst the girls.
Second would be your target audience. There's a much smaller pool of hardcore fans than casual fans. So if you sister group targets more casual fans, they will gain A LOT more fans than a group that targets hardcore fans. The benefit of hardcore fans is that they purchase multiple singles, and it's harder to lose them.

So because sister groups are typically smaller on average, the members gain more fans easier. If they're targeting a casual audience, that will be amplified even further.

Also any contracts for variety shows or variety shows, and any media productions she's involved in will have an impact on her fans. If a girl graduates and she was part of a show you produce, the game will automatically replace her with someone else. So even if you didn't assign her to a show, if someone graduated while she was with your company, she might be a cast member of one without you knowing.

Ahh ok that's it, the sister group is focusing more on casual and the main group is hardcore. Also it's a 10 to 5 group difference, smaller group being sister group of course. So that makes sense now. Just didn't realize how huge of a difference there is.
