Mental Stamina running out
I just started the game. I am currently in preparation of the first single - and the mental stamina of the idols is going down and down and down. No. They are not even doing a single damn thing. What's going on?

Did you leave auto-training on? Mental stamina gets drained when physical stamina is depleted. The idol could also be getting bullied though if you're on first single it seems a bit too early for that.

AFAICT idols who haven't gained any fame will only demand 5000 yen a week salary but they slowly drain mental stamina until you get them some fame, at which point their salary demands will go up and they'll stop losing mental stamina if you pay them enough.
I'm not entirely certain about how the mental stamina and salary systems work though, it seems they added this mental stamina drain in a recent patch and the game doesn't really explain it.

Oh, seem you're onto something. I just checked the patch notes. From patch 1.0.1:

- Idols will now slowly drain mental stamina if you pay them below minimum wage (¥20,000 /w, only on normal and unfair difficulties)

Ah, so you can get away with paying them 20k yen a week if you want to train them for a long time before debuting them? That might save you a bit of money when bringing in a new set of idols later on in the game.
I find you usually need to pay them around 100k to keep them at 100% salary satisfaction after they get one fame star no matter how many more fame stars or fans they get or how much money they're making for you. Paying your idols 100k each is a huge burden early on and you might be better off letting their mental stamina fall a bit but paying them that much is trivial after a few months. I have no idea what the formula is that determines salary demands, though, or what salary satisfaction does exactly - it seems like there's no mental drain if you keep it at 100% or more but I don't know if there are any other effects for underpaying them or overpaying them. Maybe it moves their graduation date?
It's hard to know what to do in this game when there are so many numbers that get calculated in a totally opaque way.

Look. I [just started.] I am not training them at all. These girls all go out for promotion once a day - and that doesn't deplete their physical stamina. I have break room installed. All these girls have 100 physical stam but [mental stamina is getting DRAINED.] I just have no idea what the hell I am doing wrong.

Like it's been mentioned in the post #3, mental stamina is drained each week for any girl who isn't receiving at least 20k yen/week as their salary. Since the default salary is set to 5k or so, that drain will be taking place until you correct the amounts on the Salary screen.

(it's not really your fault or anything, just a leftover from some tweaks done to the game after it was launched)

Indeed. It was but a minor nuisance. Thanks.
