I do love seeing people battle one on one on For Answer
Armored Core 4 and ForAnswer are my favorites. The Ridiculous speed, the awesome designs for the Mechs, taking on ArmsForts. The amount of freedom you have with customization in that game, including tuning the center of gravity for your mech. C'mon, how could you NOT love this game? And how it has 3 different endings (Normal, Orca, and Monster) based on which mission you take on.
I only wish there was an Armored Core 4 like game that kept the insane customization and tuning options and speed of gameplay, and just modernized it with even more of everything! Just imagine an Armored Core with DXR and 4k120FPS support in today's day and age. FromSoftware I'll buy 10 copies myself! Make it happen!

Verdict Day.
Took the game back to slow stompy mechs instead of the OP lightning fast mechs of 4 and For Answer.

And i'd say you can be fast enough in V/VD if you need it, imho

The problem in terms of Speed of V/VD is that the average Mech's speed is slow in that game. It doesn't matter if you can though an immense amount of effort (or not really a lot of effort, I have a High-Speed High-Eng design in VD) make a Mech that is fast.

Is that when compared to 4/FA, V/VD is hyper slow. Your basic starter mech (Any of them) in 4/FA is stupifyingly fast. While in V/VD it takes a while before you understand the system and buy enough parts for you to design a fast mech. And even then you'd be limited in what you can use because the weapon options for a high speed mech are limited, while in 4/4A you can have a Pugilist style Hyper-Sonic Sword Fighter, or a MissileStorm nightmare ala Mei Greenfield and still retain immense speed. The speed WAS and IS mandatory in 4/FA, because if you couldn't move fast enough to evade the Macross levels of missiles heading your way, you would die in seconds regardless of the amount of AP or KP you had on hand.

Although my favorite thing from Verdict Day is the UNACs, I loved programming one and building it up. I really hope that FromSoftware brings that system back in their Next AC.

Not saying V/VD are bad Armored Core games, I love them... Just putting my 2 Cents in about the Speed difference in that game vs it's predecessor. Don't misadvertise a game, because trying to argue that V/VD is fast when it isn't on average only makes that amazing game look bad to the uninformed.

it's still ultrafast compared to western mech games (haha) and faster then what on people's minds when they say "it's sooooo slow" (unless they compare to 4/fa, ok), but yeah, thanks for elaborating more on point.

Anyway what i appreciate very much, is those different boost/jump tricks etc. Always loved advanced movement in series.

P.S. All that UNAC stuff goes historically back to AC3 Silent Line and Formula Front, yeah? it's cool how FromSoft develop ideas over the years. Like i also hear often that Chromehounds and even (yep) Metal Wolf Chaos took some influence on AC.

This is a great thread with a lot of love
Silent line armored core because of the AI arena mode.
i played 1 and 2, but didn't really get hooked till 3. 4 and For Answer jacked up to the speed that i wanted. still play through FA here and there. really makes you work for the monster ending.
Armored Core: Verdict Day. Even though I have also played Armored Core 3 for a long time way back then when it was first released and the story was actually quite nice, AC series in general is really for that competitive multiplay afterall in my opinion. And I think AC: VC was the finalized product that the producers really tried to bring all of the multiplayer elements into it as much as possible. It really felt like a futuristic mecha war that I can be truly free, flying around in fast motion.
MoA (9ball memes) and Last Raven to me they were the best AC could be even considering how Fed up the controls were, AC4-ACfA are nice but I'd still take AC 3rd gen, 5th gen mmm hard to say its ok but also very different
My favorite Armored Core game is Gundam Breaker 3.
And anyone who's played it knows exactly what I mean.

what? this is like implying that you liked only one thing in AC, which is presented good in GB3
5th gen. V for campaign, Verdict Day for multiplayer. I liked the apporach used for this entry, it was closer to my tacticool mech fantasy with the sensors and slower play.
Steel Battalion complete with a huge Steam controller ^^!
