Love the gameplay, hate the combat.
Downloaded this game yesterday and I'm addicted, absolutely love the concept and game play of disguising yourself and breaking in and out of vaults with other players around you who have the same objective. The deception and infiltration side of the game is awesome and feels great when you pull off a victory. I love almost everything about this game expect one thing. The combat and PVP.

Now of course I might just have a massive skill issue but I can't be the only person who feels like the combat is really unrefined and very sloppy right? I've tried every agent in the game and almost all of them feel very unnatural and weird to fight with and against. I also just feel like when it comes to fights, the winner always just goes down to who gets the first shot half the time. Also I swear that I land most of my shots with an Agent with a stronger gun but I still keep dying to Agents with smaller guns even though I'm getting back to back yellow and sometimes red hit markers. Again it might just be me having a massive skill issue lol but I just feel like I lose every gun fight I'm in even though I'm landing most of my shots.

Tbh I have a weird dilemma where I love sneaking around and infiltrating the vault, and escaping with the suitcase is so tense and I love it but I hate having to go into gun fights because I feel like I'm doing nothing to the enemy even though we're both landing most shots yet still it's always me that goes down first.

I'm still pretty new so I guess I'll just let you all tell me if I'm just having a skill issue or if others do feel and agree the combat feels very wonky and unrefined. Anyways besides that I absolutely love this game. I'll definitely be recommending this to my friends lol.

P.S: This is coming from a guy who likes PVP in games.

"The winner comes down to who gets the first shot most of the time" Uhhhhh yeah. Isn't that how guns work? If someone gets the drop on you, oops.

Get health bonuses from perks. Land more headshots. Jump and duck and dive during shootouts. You are assuming your gun does more dmg than theirs but it requires you to hit shots. If you land 2 bodies and a head in the time they land 3-4 headshots from a even something like a Larcin's gun, its GG for you. This post reads like a skill issue like you said. Lower your mouse sensitivity if you have trouble tracking someone through movement while aiming, or speed it up if you can't keep up with them while aiming. Make sure your hip fire mouse sense and aim down sights mouse senses are comfortable for you. Aim for the upper torso before firing and fire in small bursts if possible. Use a sentry gun to supplement your gun output if you feel like you are missing a lot or not doing enough. Sentry auto targets and shoots anyone hostile to you for a bunch of free dmg over the course of a fight.

Watch out for guards as well, I can't tell you how many people I see die to guards because they just ignore them during fights. Each bullet from a guard is 10+ health gone for you, and when they are grouped up they can shred you and make it seem you just got blasted by someone else when in fact they might have only landed one ore two shots on you proper. That doesn't mean shoot every guard around either when a fight breaks out, it means pick your battles as much as you can. Wait until there are very few blues walking around to make your play, wait until they are in an office or apt alone, wait until they walk down some alley that most NPCs avoid. Patience is paid off in this game more than almost any other online shooter I've played.

Fire from the hip more as well, if you don't already. Point shooting is very, very accurate in this game for a lot of characters in small bursts. Also don't be afraid to run away and hide if you think you can. This is a game about spies, not honorable gunfights. Personally I wait until I know for certain that someone is a spy and then I try to bait them into attacking me by being obvious with my tells. But yes, this is a FPS meaning that winning gunfights is, unfortunately for many boomerAPM players (like myself), crucial to winning in most cases.
I suck at shooters and I win a lot of fights in this game so I couldn't tell you what's so different.

Best of luck to you, hope you can turn it around.

Yeah I've been messing around with gadgets and keybinds since writing this and I think I feel I'm getting a bit better. Honestly probably gonna delete this post in the near future but I also mainly wanted to know if other people felt the same as I did about the combat. Thanks for the tips and best of luck to you as well!

"the winner always just goes down to who gets the first shot half the time."
If only. I'm playing the sniper and I can charge a shot on an unsuspecting player, body shot them a second later, only now, after being shot twice by a sniper rifle do they notice me, and then I get melted in 2 seconds after landing another shot because apparently sniper rifles don't do damage. Maybe it will change when I unlock the bolt-action rifle.

Oof I've not tried Ace much, is she really that bad? I know for a fact she's terrible half the time cause most fights in this game are close quarters.

I've heard it changes once you get the final rifle. I'll find out eventually. I think the big issue is that the initial hit on a target in cover (which is all of them) does less damage (and doesn't benefit from headshot damage), a mechanic that seems to exist just to nerf a handful of characters. There's other stupid stuff, like if you use her active ability to mark a target to receive more damage then the player is informed that a sniper has them in their scope and is about to fire.

Ah ok I see, also I didn't know about the cover damage thing. A bit of a shame :/

Ace is crazy lol. If you use the slow on the repeater with vulnerable, its basically a free kill, just slow them, then mag dump them just take your time. She's definitely playable till 9, just need to take your time.

Ah gotcha, I'm having alot of fun with Cheyez (I think that's his name) and his Vigilante. But I definitely wanna try out Ace as well since I'm a fan of Snipers. Just had a feeling she'd be pretty bad since most fights in this game are close range.

There are some solid sniping spots on most maps. Especially Fragrant Shores since you can go on the roofs of buildings.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ really? Been pushing through with Ace this whole time but it never mentions in her ability that the target is INFORMED (this reeks of DbD design...). Time to just run Cav/Chavez like everyone else I guess.

I've tried that. It still takes way too many shots to kill. Squire can kill me in fewer shots with his peashooter.

Hipfire shots... they're accurate, they just aren't charged.

If Ace lands her shots you just lose, regardless of distance, though as an Agent she has a unique opportunity to start long range engagements, and because of your ability to just F the last person she shot, you can track them down as well.

She'll be dead before she can land her shots, even if she fires as fast as she can and hits every shot. At least with the two wimpy starting rifles. I got killed by an Ace with the final one and it hit like a truck.
