Who needs it? The developers at VG? They failed a second time. They're not coming back to this project. The publisher? This project didn't make them any profit and it's costing them more money to try to resuscitate it. The players? There are very few people who would be willing to play this as it was released for it to make any sense.
And surprisingly, in order for you to get multiplayer, you need a server to support it and you need a normal server to make it work. Who is going to do that and with what money?
