Does the phone trigger button not work?
Topic. It has it right there in the keybindings (both for this, and the PS4 version, which I've been mostly playing on because of the bug that just got patched), yet I have pressed that damned phone button a million times and it never, ever, ever once has Okabe pull out the phone. He'll only ever pull out the phone on his own, without my doing anything. Which has me a bit miffed, because I distinctly remember reading that one of the things White Fox had to animate was Okabe pulling out the phone for this exact function. So, did they decide to nix that functionality, but forgot to remove the key for it?

I ask, because of one specific circumstance: After you timeleap back the first time, in the original VN, you have the option of either calling Mayuri right away, and begin to chase her down, or just chill the F out, and the events right before the first time leap essentially repeat themselves. In Elite, all throughout that scene, I was mashing the living s***out the phone trigger button to find the right spot, but nothing ever came up, and he went into "chill the F out"-mode, and the script was nearly identical to what happens in the original VN if you don't immediately call Mayuri, including subtle hints that you should've. .

So, what gives? There are other scenes coming up that are going to necessitate a choice like that, if they are, in fact, following a 1:1 copy of the original script, like the part where Mayuri gets kidnapped by SERN and sent back in time, turning into Jello. Are these kinds of choices no longer present, only the choices at the ends of chapters that get an ending or not (as well as the True Ending flags)? Am I completely missing something with regards to being able to pull out the phone whenever I want?

The phone's largely been removed, and from what I've seen the 'phone trigger' is only for events where you get to choose whether or not to undo a D-Mail. The screen layout for that is pretty similar to Chaos;Child's Delusion Triggers, so you'll recognize it when you see it. That's where those keys get used.

As for everything else involving the phone and choices... it's gone. You can reply to most texts, but no wallpapers, no ringtones, no optional phonecalls, and pretty much anywhere else where you're given a choice (looking at Moeka's constant texts, the part where you can call either Daru or Mayuri, etc.) it's streamlined into whichever choice results in more plot, even though the script still reads like you had a choice in the first place.

That...is kind of lame I guess, and is definitely one part the original VN beats Elite on. That's not to say Elite isn't great - it is, I'm loving it - but there is that certain element that used to make it feel like those Choose Your Own Adventure novels that isn't there anymore (or, at least, isn't as strong).

So I take it all that stuff where you worked the texts to get The Hero of Rai-net scripts and Faris sending all the Phantasm songs and such is no longer there? Why did they even bother putting in those texts then? Why not just alter the script SLIGHTLY so I don't feel like an idiot when Okabe just says "f**k it" and grabs a Dr. P while the events repeat themselves?

Anyhow, thanks for clearing that up, at least I know now that it wasn't just me.
These small choices are still present
(like RaiNet in MayQueen vs. talking w Moeka about Steins Gate;
calling to Daru/Kurisu/Mayuri at ch.6 etc.),

but they are made not by immediate actions, they depend on how you used the phone before
like to whom, how replied, or if you didn't at all...
so now you have to skip through the whole game in order to get any scenes

still no more pictures and ringtones

p.s. if you got that scene with deja vu for the first time, you're lucky, because it seems to be quite hard to get that tip #38

It's easy actually; you just have to not unlock Kurisu's route in chapter 4, i.e., don't reply with "scientist" to her email. This will also allow you to see the scene with jelly-Mayuri in chapter 6.

Edit:

Oh, I've should've read this before replying. That's the scene where you get the tip #38, so I suppose not unlocking Kurisu's route in chapter 4 isn't the answer.

I have been playing two different versions of the game: one that will lead to Kurisu's Ending and the True Ending and the other that will lead to Mayuri's Ending. When I played chapter 6 (of the former), neither the scene where Okabe doesn't call Mayuri immediately nor the scene where Mayuri becomes a jellyman were shown; however, when I played chapter 6 (of the latter), both scenes were shown.
