Fatal DirectX error, code 6
I can play the game for about 2 or 3 minutes, then everything on the screen freezes. The game is still being played, I can hear it still happening in the background and I have full control of it.

I have the CCC 13.8 Beta drivers, all was fine before I installed them too. I tried reinstalling DirectX.

Tried non-beta GPU drivers? Also have you checked your CPU and GPU temps?

I have reverted back to the CCC 13.4 Stable drivers, CPU and GPU temps are fine, reinstalling didn't help, lowering graphical settings didn't help, I'm at a loss as to what it could be

Do you have the hexadecimal code or the name of the error?

Via copy/paste of the error window:

Fatal DirectX error! Code: 6 Result: 0x887A0001: DXGI_ERROR_INVALID_CALL The game will now exit. Try starting the game with /failsafe if the problem persist

That means that either the game or your computer is broken since DirectX was given bad input arguments. This is usually from not considering all special cases of the system's settings. If you have anything like multiple screens or something rare activated, disabling it might go around the bug.

This isn't all that uncommon a problem and I tried a ton of different suggestions to fix it including different drivers for my vidcard and command line additions... NOTHING WORKED. Then I came across this fix in a youtube video and have been playing nonstop for an hour.

Give it a shot. Good luck.

I know how to fix this problem.Add operating parameters of /dxadapter=0 in the Steam startup options

I just upgraded to 960 GTX and started getting this crash more and more often. (was once every couple hours, then every 45 minutes, then every 20 minutes, and finally anytime I blew something up).

I found this site:
http://www.crashwiki.com/top-10-fixes-just-cause-2-crashes-errors-multiplayer-mod-crash-code-53-starting-missing-exe-black-screen-dx-errors/

and did the following:

Launch options: /frameratecap=30 /filmgrain=0 /dxadapter=0

Graphics settings: Disable motion blur, bokeh filter, and decals.

The linked site also recommends disabling GPU simulated water but life is meaningless without Just Cause 2's full water potential.

I plan to try different framerate caps, but this is working great for now. The gameplay is also much smoother than the gameplay I was getting in between crashes before applying these changes.
