Graphical Artifact
Has anyone else been getting graphical artifacts while playing? Not the red triangles that pop up due to the decal error, but actual giant black spikes showing up in the game?

I've only seen one, but I just want to make sure it isn't something wrong with my system. My GTX 770 hovers around 70C in demanding areas, so I really don't think it is overheating. This is also the first game I've ever seen an artifact in, so I somehow doubt my GPU is dying.

My driver version is 337.88.

Thanks in advance.

I've seen similar artifacts, only while flying though.

I've seen 2 types, the first was a giant grey triangle when I looked toward the center of the map while in flight.. I could only see it from certain angles.

The second is a long black strip running across the map like a road.

I'm using a GeForce 9800GTX+ with the same driver as you.

Now that you mention it, I think I've only encountered them while airborn myself.

If the artifact is caused by my GPU failing, would any other game reproduce it? I ask because this is the most demanding game I own at the moment.

I ran Unigine Valley for a few minutes last night, and didn't see any issues. That benchmark pushes my GPU much harder than this game does.

Um.. Mech Warrior Online uses CryEngine 3.2 I believe, no artifacts there.

Nor with any of the Crysis games or Mass Effect games.

No issues in Warframe, Wildstar, God Mode, The Witcher 2 or pretty much any other games I've played recently.

If it was our GPU's, I'm fairly certain it would show up in other games.

Also I tried rolling back drivers to 335, this happened: http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/3280059407493409565/C885732F92045850A2F919DCCB0048B08E82233A/

It went away after I reloaded the save file.

Tech forum that I frequent suggested that it may be a bad install. I transferred the files from a different computer (same account though). Apparently Steam doesn't like that. I'm attempting a clean install.

Those are exactly the kind of artifacts I'm seeing, and it is to the point where they pop up as soon as I enter the game.

Certain cities in the game I get the "grey triangle" effect. This is on a clean Steam install. Tried verify files, etc.. It happens only in a couple of places really for me and funny part is the places it happens are much less taxing video wise than in some of the larger more dense areas.

This happened on my old video card as well. I am not sure if it is a bug in the game that was never fixed or a video driver bug - I use an eVGA nVidia GTX 650 Ti BOOST Superclocked currently. Brand new eVGA PSU as well.

I keep getting a red glow that seems like it is supposed to be blood splatter. It occassionally comes from player character but mostly from enemies.

I'm on a clean install myself, verified files and everything.

Haven't seen any major artifacts since that screenshot but I'm seeing some slight odd spots in on shaded roads while driving a vehicle.

I've seen the same thing myself, seems the game has a few issues here and there still yet.

I'm also getting the same dots when driving. They aren't hugely noticeable. What I've heard here isn't encouraging, but I'm hoping that a fresh install can make this less frequent. Seems that this game doesn't like newer drivers.

I was getting this too. It is a driver bug apparently. Again, this game really doesn't seem to like newer drivers. I solved the problem by turning off "Decals" in the advanced display settings. It just switches off bullet holes. Blood still works fine.

Just hit an old artifact with a new twist lol

From the ground and it takes up the entire sky in that direction.

Aerial view.

I'll try changing drivers again and see if anything changes.

Have you tried turning it off and turning it back on again?

JK

Try turning off decals, worked for me.

Although yours are FAR more sever than mine. My random spikes seemed to happen any time a gernade was thrown or randomly spawning from ricos back.

Yeah, I have decals turned off due to the red triangle glitch mentioned earlier. My artifacts are pretty severe. I've seen an entire building wall load into the sky. They also occur almost as soon as I begin playing. There isn't any correlation to GPU temperature.

Just wanted to report that the clean install fixed nothing. I played for about an hour before artifacts began to appear.
Aeden Jun 19, 2014 @ 1:59pm
After some searching, it appears that Just Cause 2 has issues with GeForce drivers after 314.

I'm trying to submit a report about the current issue but I can't seem to recover my old account or create a new one.

Also this happened: http://cloud-3.steampowered.com/ugc/3280059407521201411/E5E540C5AB01CF11F2C898922C7AD17B5B42CD1E/

It was fine for 2 hours and then boom. Like you said, no correlation to GPU temp.

Where are you submitting the report? Maybe I can do it.
Aeden Jun 19, 2014 @ 3:36pm
https://forums.geforce.com/default/board/44/

There was a previous issue with 320.14 Beta, found it on that forum. Hoping they'll respond to this issue too.
