This may be per PC and have a lot of variance but what really helped me was turning on Vsync.

I never like to play with it on but it ended all crashing, I also have decals off I believe.

I tried limiting the fps to 60 externally but that only sligtly reduced crashing.

I turned off specular lighting and decals. Also applied a 4gb patch and it stopped crashing.

And if you have a nvidia card and since it's an older game you should also have the physx legacy driver installed. It won't overwrite your up to date driver so don't worry.

Doesn't matter anyway, I'm back to crashing too. The game is just borked.

What settings are you both using?

I would very much like to know because I do a lot of modifying and occasionally get plagued by crashes especially with helicopters.

So far Vsync solved the problem but maybe it will appear again.

I usually have vsync forced on in the nvidia control panel and off in game, but I'll try vsync on in game to see if it helps.

That is what was happening to me also, crashes when I limit the fps externally to 60, but no crashes after using in game vsync.

So far so good no crashes and I've been going to the trouble areas that crashed earlier. You are a gentleman and a scholar take some points.

Hi and thanks for the info! My game crashes after a little while and I keep having to reload JC2 on my Win 11 machine. I am installing the NVidia driver now, and I downloaded the 4GB patch, only when I try to execute it, the installer opens up my Documents directory and I have no idea what to do after that. Do I need to copy the file somewher,e like to my desktop and run it from there, or am I missing something? The site you linked to has no specific instructions for installing the patcher.

Edit: Also, how do you limit the framerate? I can't find that in the game's visual settings.

You need to direct the patch to the justcause2.exe file in your steam folder. Highlight that file then hit "open" and it'll patch it. Just hit ok when the little box pops up. If you have a nvidia gpu you can limit your fps in the nvidia control panel. Right click on your desktop and you'll see it. Once you're in the menu hit "manage 3d settings." Then go to "program settings" Add just cause 2 in the program drop box. If you have recently played it just cause 2 should be there. Click on it to configure the game. Go down to max framerate and limit to whatever. Make sure you hit "apply" at the bottom before you exit.

Thanks, okay I patched JC2 with the 4GB Patch. I went into NVidia control panel and manage 3D settings, but there was no "Program Settings" in that box. So for the time being, I just globally restricted the fps to 60 until I can sort this out. I will try the game now and see if it crashes.

Go back under "manage 3d settings" there's two tabs to the right. "Global settings" and "program settings."
