Updating Executable Error Possible Fix

I recently had the Updating Executable problem whenever trying to start the game... I fixed it by simply checking the integrity of the files... It reacquired 1 missing file and the game launched... This method worked on both windows 10 and 11 systems...

YOU SIR, are amazing. Thank you for the fix. All anyone has to do is delete the justcause2.exe currently in their game folder and replace it with the one downloaded from the link. Game started right up no issues.

legend, this fixed it for me. downloaded it, copied and pasted it over the original game's exe in its steam folder then opened the new exe from there. haven't tried quitting the game and restarting it directly through steam yet but i'm sure it's fine now

I put the original executable into Virustotal and it marked it as a trojan. I was suspicious with this link, but it's clean, and works... so far.

I've done the fix and now the game opens however the game gets stuck on the starting loading screen. Anyone know a fix for this?

for me (maybe NOT for everybody), the problem was been the original version of the game on DVD (and only a DVD) because not the first installation in steam ... somes data are only on the dvd and not installed by steam. so, for fixed the problem : 1 install the game on steam, 2 insert the original DVD in the drive, 3 start the game on steam and miracle, you see started the installation of a old visual basic version (on windows 11), the game start just after. you dont need to have the dvd in the drive after the first start.

Because THOSE links (as always) WENT OUT of service some time ago...HERE IS THE EASIEST AND BEST ETERNAL (hopefully) FIX I used just now with everything working FINE so far.

Just DOWNLOAD the Demo (about 1gb) then take the .exe from that and place it in the Just Cause 2 directory (either rename the ORIG or overwrite when asked). When I did that and ran the game it downloaded a couple extra dependencies and then started up. I tried the OPs way first without any success like others, and so quickly came up with this solution that worked.

As long as there is a demo on steam, this method is by far the easiest/best. If anything borks I will do my best to come back here and let you know. Funny how we have to apply a user created fix for an out of the box product...yet it is what it is, just glad the fix is so simple!

actually, even though I got it to load a few times, it is still severely glitched...I also copied OTHER files over from the root directory of the demo was what got it to load, though broken. So now I am just re-installing and hoping it will work. I could try other fixes, yet risks are from some files online. Funny how the FREE demo, which I thought was great is actually A FAR BETTER deal than this broken SOLD game!
