not starting

the game used to run last year but now when i try it says updating exucutables then it stops and does not start, is there a fix for this?

I'm experiencing the same problem. yesterday on the first launch of the game in a few years it loaded up to the first logo screen but then it immediately crashed, and then I tried moving the game from my slow hard drive to my fast SSD and after steam successfully moved it the game now keeps getting stuck on the "updating executable" status, even after I fully uninstalled the game and reinstalled it

Same here. The game ran fine yesterday until I uninstalled it to do some PC maint work. I reinstalled and get the same "Updating Executable" and stuck there. I went to the /common/ Just Cause 2 folder and ran the EXE directly and then checked the Windows Event Viewer and it shows the following error:

EDIT : updating my GPU drivers DID NOT solve the problem.

i was able to launch the game by copying executable and two dependency files from GOG version. i guess it ain't much help but at least it's known where the problem stems from
