You can try the fix for "DirectX Error 3" here: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Just_Cause_2#Directx_Error_3
See if any of the command line arguments like "/dxadapter=0" makes the game executable stay running.
-Installed on my new rig (RTX3070, Ryzen 5700X, Asus B550F-Gaming MB, 32 Go Ram 3200Hz, Windows 10 64)
-> That crap
-Installed on my low-end laptop (GTX 1650, i5-9300H, 8 Go Ram 2400 Hz, Windows 10 64)
-> Everything runs just fine...
I tried every known solutions (dxadapter, windows compatibility, tricks into nvidia settings, etc..) -> Just nope.
So I monitored the error in the Windows Event Viewer, the crash was caused everytime by fmodex.dll in the game folder. Nothing on the web concerning that dll, but the loading screen of JC2 talks about it (just before crashing of course). It's related to MPEG3, Dolby, etc... So audio decoding.
I happen to have shutdown in the sound configuration every output device except my speakers using Realtek (bugs), including another icon of my speakers, using Sonic Studio Virtual Mixer, a special software installed by my Asus MB that I don't use.
Letting them both enabled made the trick.
My laptop has only Realtek speakers output, so no conflict, i guess...
