What could have caused the game to be withdrawn from sale?

Yeah.. we've been guessing that it was being updated to remove GFWL, or adding the official DLC to the game, but guess we'll have to wait.. interesting BSM is still for sale, which is good news

Expecting the dissolution of GFWL system since it is obsolete. Working online might be too much to be expected, but that would be grand.

To bury the game would most not likely be a reason considering Battlestations Midway should have also gone down with it but thats still up for purchase.

Most likely trying update the game to remove Microsoft's "Games For Windows Live" because they no longer support the software.

There is a VERY slight rumor going around that it could have a graphics overhaul based on a recent deal Square Enix made but that's strongly unlikely.

I'd say so. The store page clearly hints it is out of reach only for the time it takes for the developers to finish the update.

Please be a just GFWL removal... I don't expect any graphical improvements or remaster, just get rid of that damn GFWL. I see some possibility that Battlestions Midway is still on steam store (even on Humble store, they acted fast!) which isn't GFWL implemented, which means they are working on Pacific specifically.
I really hope this is a good sign for a poor victim of GFWL could get more love once again. I will insta buy then and gift to my friends.

This is disappointing to say the least. I installed this again just to play with the Remastered mod, then found out I can't get the game to run at all. I feel like this will never come back and just be forgotten about by Square Enix.

It's a shame I really wanted to buy it to relive the nostalgia back when I still played it on my old 360. I personally have the feeling it will probably get buried. I really wanted to play the new Remastered mod. A graphics overhaul would be awesome, since I do plan to do an upgrade to my system hopefully during the fall. However, I realistically do not see it happening since this game was unfortunately never popular to begin with.

Curious if this ties into the Windows 10 Securom issue. Can't install a lot of old CD games on Windows 10, C&C Generals being one example for me. IMO the whole virus reason is a poor excuse from Microsoft since many of those games had their online servers taken down YEARS ago.

So they might fix it and bring it back.

I was kinda hoping they would do another game. The Steam market and social media is a lot different now, I think a new game of this style would do really well. It was a massive sleeper hit back in the day.

As far as I know, same kind of thing happened with GTA IV for example. It took some time, but it was brought back with GFWL removed. The store page notification even implies that the game will be back in near future after updating which will obviously take some time. I wish people wouldn't give negative reviews for the game just because it refuses to work without artificial respiration at this burning moment.

There are some simple workarounds to make it work at moment though. You can easily find tutorials about them. I am using Win 10 myself and I manage to make even the Remastered mod run currently without problems.
